Repro 16/20 on GI

What do the experts say about this gun https://parkerguns.org/forums/showth...arrels&page=3?
I would guess the barrels are Merkel/Galazan. I’ve attached a pic of what I think are the 16ga barrels attached showing the rib extension. It appears to be un-matted. Hard to tell about the gaps. I’ve asked for a better picture. Overall I like this gun and the price seems reasonable in today’s market. Am I reading this right, or missing something important? Thanks in advance, Brett |

Brett,
Here is what the real original 16 GA Dolls Head looks like. Bob Jurewicz sorry for the poor qualityPicture 2 is better. |
Bob,
Thanks so much for the pictures! Is the general consensus here to hold out for an example with the “original” Krieghoff barrels and pass on guns with the aftermarket Merkel tubes? Best, Brett |
That is what I believe

Thanks!

Those Merkel-made barrels Galazan sold were very decent snd servicable. I bought a set for my Repro 20 two-barrel set Skeet gun in order to make the gun more versatile. . |
Thanks Dean, good to have feedback from someone who has used the Merkel barrels!
|
I bought 16 gauge Merkel 28" barrels for my existing (an original) 20 gauge 2-barrel set. Knowing they weren't original to the gun and wanted them to be versatile I had Briley thin wall chokes installed. Love the set up for upland birds and clay sports.

More food for thought, thank you!

I have an original 16-20 repro with the Kieghoff barrels. When the Galazan 16ga barrels came on the market I bought a set of them & fit them to the gun.
My opinion is that the Galazan barrels are of very high quality but should be viewed as aftermarket non-original and a 20ga repro with a pair added should be priced accordingly due to it be a made up two-barrel set. With that said: Also keep in mind that in todays market a set of Galazan repro 16ga barrels by themselves would probably easily bring north of $2000.00 |
Paul,
Were various chokings offered with the CSMC barrels and were they so marked? Bob Jurewicz |
To the best of my knowledge the y were all provided as F/F and if you had Galazan fit them to your Repro you could have them choked to your specs. I ordered them to be shipped to me and they required very little fitting but I accepted them as Full in both barrels.

I just looked at my Galazan barrels and they aren't marked/stamped for choking but measure R-.008" L-.024" and came from the factory that way. My original Kieghoff set is Q-1 Q-2 I love that combination for most shooting but I wanted a tighter choking for mid to late season pheasants & the Galazan set fits those needs very well. |

Paul, did you buy the gun with the Galazan barrels already fitted to your gun or did you send your gun to Galazan to have their barrels fitted? . |

I’ve attached a picture of the dolls head area with the barrels attached to the gun. Do you find the gaps objectionable?
|
I would not be happy with that!
Bob Jurewicz |
Knowing they are aftermarket barrels ‘applied’ (not “fitted”) to a Repro, I wouldn’t have much to say. If you want a perfect fitment you need to specifically ask for it… and specifically pay for the perfect fitment.

I have had, over the years both the Krieghoff and Galazan barrels and I much preferred the original Krieghoff barrels. The dolls head on the Galazan barrels I had fitted very similar to the ones pictured here and that always bothered me.

There is a small gap at the dolls head similar to the pictures posted here, but that doesn't bother me knowing that these were aftermarket barrels, and I was adding them to make the gun a more universal shooter. The two original sets don't have the gap at the dolls head. |

In regards to the choking CSMC offered for their 16ga. Repro barrels the advertisements I have show only M/F, perhaps they offered other chokings as well.

I stand corrected again. The barrels I bought from Galazan were choked M/F and were 28” long.

It appears that the CSMC Parker Reproduction and original Parker repro barrels had undergone some significant price increases in just a few short years. Paul seems to recall the very first offering of CSMC 16ga. Repro barrels were priced at $1300. Then they went to $1895.00, then $3995.00 and finally $4800.00 with the orig. Parker repro barrels significantly higher. The pricing below was listed in and taken from Galazan catalogs 16,17 & 18. The inflation we've experienced lately hasn't been just a recent phenomenon, eh? |
I an assuming these barrels are no longer available? Wish I knew about it when they were.
