8ga Gathering and Shoot at the Southern 4/26

Just a early Southern heads up, we will have a 8ga gathering and 5 stand competition Friday April 26th at 9am at the practice five stand. Cash prize for high gun. Looking forward to seeing some new participants. Last year we had 14 shooters looking to add to that number in 2024. :)

CraigThompson 02-15-2024 04:46 PM

I plan to be there !

Craig Larter 02-15-2024 05:12 PM

We need to keep the obsolete 8ga alive, its part of our shotgun heritage, we need to insure it doesn't go into the dust bin of history.

Stan Hoover 02-15-2024 05:50 PM

Looking forward to seeing everyone again, 8 gauge is KING!

CraigThompson 02-15-2024 05:51 PM

I think an 8 gauge needs to find its way into the Southern IN cartel :rotf:

That chapter of the Cartel is lacking the required body mass.

If the Uhm war lord of Southern IN should wanna give it a try I think I know where a loaner for the round can be found :cool:

Bill Murphy 02-16-2024 03:32 PM

If I could get a little table space at the Southern for a day, I am willing to put my eight gauge collection on the market. I only have one that I can handle, my DH 30" under ten pound gun. I shot that one at the first Southern Eight Gauge Five Stand event, and it removed the luster from the rest of my eights.

Mills Morrison 02-20-2024 12:45 PM

Will plan to bring mine this year. Thanks to Craig L. and all of those who participate in organizing this event!

Mike Koneski 02-20-2024 12:55 PM

The NEPA Cartel will be there. Cocked, locked and ready to rock, Doc!!

Jay Oliver 02-20-2024 01:21 PM

I'm in and looking forward to it!

Craig Larter 03-23-2024 05:02 PM

TTT don't miss the big boy 8ga event Friday 9am at the 5 stand.

CraigThompson 03-24-2024 10:01 PM

So how many folks does it look like so far ? I think I’ve got the fellow that finished second to Koneski at the Vintage Cup (8 gauge event) coming but he’s shooting a euro gun not that there’s anything wrong with that  Any response from the lowly Hardware store Smith lads ? Well DeFerlemont told me he was but dunno about any of the others .

Craig Larter 03-25-2024 04:28 AM

Craig: I don't have a count on the number of shooters, but I expect about the same as last year. I'm just packing one 8ga and some extra shells in case someone shows up with a 8 and no shells. See ya soon and looking forward to the Southern.

This year I probably won’t bring but my 8 a pair of 10’s a 12 and maybe a 16 . And the 16’s kinda doubtful  But as in all previous years more shells than I could possibly use .

randall rosenthal 03-25-2024 08:48 AM

just curious.....how many 8 gauge guns did Parker make? a friend has a 10 but I've never even seen an 8 in real life.

Seems to me I was told 500ish at some point . Before that I’d thought 350ish .

Frank Srebro 04-03-2024 12:35 PM

Seen today ..... a couple of 8-gauge boys at a certain NE PA location cooking up new loads with alternate powders in prep for the Southern. It was raining like crazy all morning and they were shooting from under a roof. Just sayin.

Thanks Frank, so the Eastern PA Cartel are cooking up a secret load to win the 8ga Nationals! No way boys, look for a Upstate NY Outlaw Gunner to take the coveted award!

Mike Koneski 04-03-2024 04:32 PM

Craig, challenge accepted!!! :rotf:

FYI, you're going to like the data we have coming. It'll be posted on this site when it's in our hands.

Craig Larter 04-03-2024 04:46 PM

Mike that is great news, now if we could source SP-8 wads. Someone in the PGCA must know a higher up management type at Vista Corp. Frustrating

Daryl Corona 04-03-2024 05:21 PM

Some time in the future there should be a 8ga/28ga challenge to see which one of the "8"'s really rule.:)

I'll remember that but you just threw down the gauntlet.:nono::)

Mike Koneski 04-03-2024 05:46 PM

That’s twice Craig “threw down”. Does he have any gauntlets left??

Don't stop Craig, he feeds off this stuff. I believe you can hold your own with the big 8.

I'm having a hard time deciding which is Mikey,

he's really been working on his figure by the looks of things:)

Would that be that rumored 8 frame Parker??

Mikey is the one pulling the trigger. I recognize the hat which I have seen him wear with his Tom Selleck wannabe Hawaiian shirt. Sharp dresser that boy.:)

COULD BE BECAUSE 28G TARGETS ARE INSIDE OF 35 YARDS?? ASKING FOR A FRIEND.

Maybe some other members will remember but a few years ago two, 28ga shooters were tied for the top spot on the BoWhoop and lost in a shootout due to operator error. Just saying...it can be done. Follow me for more shooting the smallbore advice.

A few quick pictures taken while getting the big guns out yesterday morning. I’m sure Craig will be along with better pictures and the results.

Thanks for your efforts Craig L., was great to see the enthusiasm for the 8 bore!!
