2015 Spring Southern and Drake Landing

Over the Christmas Holidays I spoke to Dan Andrews at Drake Landing, and he mentioned a conversation that he had with the local Barbour Clothing rep. Dan told him that we've had a pretty good group of side by side shooters showing up before and during the Spring Southern event to shoot at his club. Dan asked me if he and Barbour sponsored a shoot for us, how many people I thought would attend? This would not be a PGCA sanctioned event, but between the three collector organizations I believe we had over 20 shooters come out last year. My suggestion to Dan was that if we did this, I thought we should do something the Thursday before the Southern starts, so as not to interfere with the main event. While there is a group of us who have shot there all four days over the past two years, I wouldn't want to organize anything official that would compete with the Southern or participation in the Parker/LC Smith challenge.

So, I put it to you guys who have probably already started to think about plans for this year. Would you make the trip a day early to do some shooting at Drake Landing? While I know it will be tough to do, I would like to see what kind of commitment I could give him on attendance. I'm planning to post this same message on the Fox Collectors site as well. For those of you who have shot at his club, you know Dan has done a lot for us, and this is just taking it to the next level.

Mike

Outstanding idea Mr. Smith!

How about making it even better by inviting your wise and attractive U.S. Representative, the honorable Renee Elmer's?

Eric Eis 01-16-2015 10:06 AM

I know there are more guys planning on coming to this. Please let Mike know so he can give a approximate head count to Dan.

Harold Lee Pickens 01-16-2015 12:38 PM

Mike, I have been waiting to see some posts on Drakes. I am planning to leave Wed at noon and be down there that evening. Good job!, hope things work out
Harold

Rich Anderson 01-16-2015 08:31 PM

I'm all in for Drakes:) It's one of the nicest shooting fascilities I have ever been to and you can't beat the hospitality:nono: ANYONE who has shot there before knows what a great place this is and the fact that this has grown in recent years from 3-5 shooters to over 20 last year is a testament to just how much fun it is to shoot there

I come up with 12 just off the top of my head so 20+ should be no problem.

Carvel Whaley 01-16-2015 08:50 PM

Mike, I plan to be there. Carvel

Rich Anderson 01-18-2015 08:42 AM

Would anyone be interested in a hammer gun shoot on Friday am? Any mfg and we could handicap it by gauge. If someone would like to shoot this but doesn't have a gun I'll have a couple with me and would gladly lend one to a shooter.

David Dwyer 01-18-2015 08:46 AM

Rich
I think that is a great idea. I am in!
David

Buddy Marson 01-18-2015 08:47 AM

Mike, I plan to be there on Thursday to shoot with you guys. (and gals)
Buddy

Hey Charlie,

I'll bring a pair of 8 gauges from further away than your journey. Save your pennies, load your ammo, pack up the pickup, and drive on over to join your PGCA, AH Fox, LC Smith, Lefever, and even those European shooting friends at Drakes Landing and Deep River. It about the best time an ol'man can handle...

See you there,
Mark

Eric Eis 01-18-2015 10:51 AM

I'm up for that Rich, maybe I'll bring the new 16 ga that I got from Edgar. Mike you better bring that 28 ga hammer gun that you bought last year at Penn. I want to try that one out...

Rich Anderson 01-18-2015 11:34 AM

I'll shoot either the Boss or a Parker can't decide. Any ideas on a fair handicapp system for the smaller gauges? We could keep it simple and go 1 for a 16, 2 for a 20 3 for a 28 or 2,4,6 ect.

Rich,

I want 1 point per pound of gun over 9 lbs. Its only fair. If you do not think so then we could trade guns. I'll shoot one of your 16's and you can shoot one of my 8's or my #5 frame 10 gauge... :rotf:

Mark

Devan Brown 01-18-2015 01:19 PM

Mike,
I would like to join the group for this shoot.
Devan

Or we could forget the score sheet like we normally do and just shoot :rotf::rotf:

Bill Murphy 01-18-2015 03:36 PM

Rich, you shoot a .410 Boss and I'll give you 20 birds.

Rich Anderson 01-18-2015 04:19 PM

Devan welcome aboard, you'll have fun I guarantee it.
Bill I'd love a Boss 410, mine is a thumb opener 20ga

Harold Lee Pickens 01-18-2015 09:18 PM

Don't have a hammer gun--yet, but I will be there and with a couple guns you haven't seen yet--but will post pictures as soon as I get my hands on them.

David Dwyer 01-19-2015 07:16 AM

Harrold
I will be shooting my D grade 20 hammergun but will have a 28ga, 16ga, 12ga or 10ga with me that you are welcome to use.
David

Mark Ouellette 01-19-2015 07:24 AM

Hey, I don't own an 8 gauge hammer gun. Also, think about our AH Fox friends! Ansley didn't make any exposed hammer guns.

David Dwyer 01-19-2015 07:34 AM

So ,your point is??? They should have collected Parkers?? :)

This is great, glad so many of you guys are going to be able to join us. We're up to 15 guys already. I updated my first post to include the names of those who said they will attend. I'll continue to add these names as we go, so if your status changes for some reason, let me know.
