GUN SHOW SATURDAY
Went to the Washington, Pa gun show this weekend and had the great pleasure of meeting Brushbuster, alias Russ Jackson. The show was packed, but after we sat around and shot the bull for a while, the crowd thinned out and we were able to get thru the buildings. Now I must tell you, the picture of Russ in his avatar does not do him justice--he has lost 65 lbs since that photo and now looks like he could run up and down those SW Pa mountains--grouse beware.
There were few doubles at the show and even fewer Parkers. Im still debating about a 16 Trojan--the frame had been blued and it had a fairly significant dent in the left barrel. I was also concerned that the barrels may also have been hot blued and possibly cause future rib problems. I do know how to get a hold of the seller and if I can get the gun for the right price, I think it could make a good shooter( after taking care of the dent). What first appeared to be a Parker from a distance, turned out to be a Sterlingworth Pin gun,52xxx. It had 28" IC/m 4 wt barrels(Fox's lightest),14.5 LOP, still had some cc left. Dont know why, but the gun came home with me--I am not a 12 ga. guy but it was a pretty nice gun and would be great on Pheasants. It was fun meeting another Parkerphile, and hope we can get together and bust some clays. Russ, keep in touch. |
sounds like you brush buster had a good gun show...dont you wish all of the boys could get to meet each other at gun shows... that russ musta done some serios hunting and walking this time to lose 65 lbs i think i may have gained a few lbs...now russ can give us boys them light weight guns and we can give him some of our heavy ones. yep russ needs a ten now to hunt grouse with...one of them 12 pounders....i bet the old fox will make a good hunting gun... thanks for the post.... charlie

Nice score, Harold!! Despite the slim "pickens" you found a little jewel.
Few things sweeter than a 4-wt Fox!! Looks like a Parker but turns into a Fox. I know a few guys in CT who share that same recurring nightmare.:rotf: Music to my ears.......... |
Harold, who had the SBT? I was there on Sunday.I was looking at a Vhe 12 with 32 inch barrels. The isles were a little close don't you think.
|
I didnt see the SBT(single barrel trap) but i did see the 32" gun. I kind of wish I had persued the Trojan 16 a little more, but I think it will be in Moundsville, Wv this weekend and I know where the owner lives. I almost went back up Sunday to look around but went looking for antler sheds (n0 luck). It was extremely crowded on Sat and it was hard getting thru the crowd. Where is home? I assume we must be fairly close.

Im not far from Raccoon state park, I read the display on the S.B.T and it said the owner won the Pa. trap championship with it quite a few times. I am not familiar with the grades that were made but it was beautiful. Asking was $3750. I shoot skeet at Mcdonald sportsmans on open Thursdays, nice place to break a few and good people there. I should have looked harder at the Vhe , but thats a lot to carry in a pheasant field.

I'm sorry, I just saw you are in Wheeling, I thought it said Weirton. I am just north of Washington Pa.
|
I am told of a little upswing in the flush count in the upper panhandle this year. I will be venturing across when Pa. ends .
|
Harold if your looking for a 16 Trojan our moderator Jeff Kuss has a very nice one at a fair price. He's enjoying some warmer climates right now but I'm sure he would return a pm when he gets back.
I shouldn't ask but what about the DHE 16? |
If I were you I wouldn't waste any more time chasing that knackered-out Trojan; I'd be trying to find out who that guy in the green pickup truck in the parking lot was that showed the 32" straight grip DHE 28 ga. to a few interested buyers. After all, its the New Year and the 'fiscal cliff' is in the rearview - go for it!!
