I took my little 28 Ga. American Gun out on its first hunting trip for quail. I went outside of town and didn't get maybe 50 yards out of my truck and up flew a covey of quail.I was on them quick and pulled the right trigger and down comes one and now all I have to do is pull the left trigger and nothing happens.It is important to remember to pull the hammer back before you can shoot again. Is that a Scaled Quail? Someday I'll get west to hunt birds. I'd like to head to Montanna or the Dakotas for Huns, Sharptails and of course Pheasants but I would also like to hunt Scaled Quail and Gambles Quail.

A very pretty bird, and the gun isn't to shabby either.

Rich: it is a California quail. We have no season on gambel's quail here although there are some. I get quite the rush when them little buggers take off and you better be ready and zone in one one or your out of luck.Thomas

Good shooting with the right barrel though.:bowdown:

Right now I am in Colorado having successfully hunted a cow elk and a mule deer. Hopefully next week I will be back in the Santa Barbara, California area to hunt Valley Quail. They are delightful birds to hunt. Very pretty bird you shot and I like the gun as well.

Thomas ,When I carry a Hammer gun ,I always carry it open with shells in the Chamber and Hammers Back ,all I have to do is shut the gun ,mount it and fire ! Works for me but I do occasionally lose a shell or two ! Nice looking Gun ! Congrats on the Quail ,Beautiful birds ! Russ

Thomas, I can empathize with you ,I love the small bores ,but I always have ,on occasion ,I will carry a Big Bore ,maybe once a year and it's usually a Ten Bore ,can't honestly tell you the last time I toted a 12 Ga. , I have been carrying a 20 Ga. to a 410 since I bought a little 20 Ga. Browning BSS Sporter way back in 1980 ! Just recently I purchased a Drilling in 24 Ga. ,when I bought it ,I thought it was a 28 but when I sent the Barrel markings to Edgar S. for some advice on the Rifle boring ,he said it was a 24 and by Golly he was right ! I just got some ammo for it and am anxious to see how that 24 Ga. does !
