Parker Bros. Laminated Barrels
5 Attachment(s)
This is a recently aquired Parker Underlifter with what are believed to be Laminated Steel barrels manufactured by Parker Bros.
There is no proof of this hypothesis, however it is plain to see that the barrel tubes are each comprised of three seperate sections 'hammer welded' together. The patterns are not as nice as those shown by Bruce Day in a recent thread but appear more interesting in pattern than the English Laminated barrels used on later, lower grade Parkers. The gun shown here is the $125 Grade (predecessor to the Grade 3) and the stock is wonderful in my opinion but is broken at the wrist and the checkering has been poorly recut. Notice also that the hammers are wrong and this is the gun I need hammers for. These issues will be remedied in the coming months. . |
Dean -
is it just the "patina", the photo, or are the patterns on the tubes showing quite a bit of difference? |

Stock and Frame.
**** Apologies, incidentally, to the "Gold Towel Collector" that all I could find on short notice was a gold towel**** . |

Yes Rick. I explained that in my description of the barrels - they were made in segments and welded together to make the necessary tube length. This was a short-lived experiment by Parker Bros to manufacture their own barrels. I think the 'appearance of the barrels' was probably secondary to producing a functioning, quality set of barrels. |
The pattern is quite similar to Austin's Grade 3 SN 14056

Very interesting Drew.

Really nice stick of wood, great looking barrels and beautiful receiver. Towel is first rate too. Was towel redone by Turnbull?:)

The towel is completely original and was found in a closet in a small town in Massachusetts. Just goes to show ya, they're still out there!

Very cool pattern on the barrels whatever the heck they are.
I stocked up on towels at the Quality Inn in Georgetown but all they had was white. |
Maybe the PGCA should add the yellow/golden towel to the Parker Store as an item to sell:rolleyes: Add a PGCA logo and it would be a big seller. Better check though, it may be patiented by someone in the Mid West.
Dean, is that stock original? |
