Fitted Wooden cases for Parker hammer guns
I own (and have seen others) a wooden case for my top lever hammer gun. The usual setup is a compartment for the barrels, butt stock and the forennd has its own place as well. there are 24 holes for shells and a compartment for whatever.
the wood appears to be walnut. were these sold or made by Parker? if not by who? it is very nicely made and still quite square and tight. |

As far as we know, these were made by Parker Bros, although it's possible these were made by a subcontractor. Regardless, they were cataloged and sold by Parker. I'm sure you appreciate that these are rare and valuable. There is discussion of these cases in TPS.
Maybe post photos of yours? |
Bruce, Thanks for the fine detail shots of the Parker walnut case. It appears to be for an early straight grip gun and does not seem to have the metal turn keepers for the cleaning rod and other accessories seen in other similar cases. My question is, are both the forend grip and the cleaning rod section storred in the channel under where the barrels are stored, and is there some provision for keeping them from hitting each other?

Wonderful case (and nice pictures) and much neater (older??) than mine. mine has a folding handle on the top of the case made of metal and acorn motif attaching plates. the gun is in the 25000 range. |

George, if you would picture your case, we may be able to tell you whether your case is included in Parker Brothers advertising.

and another original Parker cataloged case for an 11 ga lifter action. I don't recall seeing a Parker cataloged case with top folding handle and acorn motif attachments. It would warrant checking the early catalogs, which are re-printed in TPS.
As an aside, we get lots of people seeking a original Parker case for their 1910 hammerless , etc. Original Parker cases are very few and limited to the early hammer, usually lifter action, years. If you don't see it in the early catalogs, I know of no compelling reason why it is a Parker case. However, lots of hammerless Parkers were sold with leg of mutton cases or VC cases, and those would be period correct, and really the most authentic a person can do. |
I know where there is a Parker walnut case with accessories for a lifter 10ga straight stock that can be had for a very reasonable price.
