 2 1/2 inch 20ga

Hope someone can help me. I’m looking for a 2 1/2 inch 3/4oz 20 gauge load for my 5lb Dickson Boxlock. I have tons of powders and am open to any hulls or wads. Thanks for help!

I have roll crimped some 1/2oz 20 gauge loads with with 13 grains of unique and the hit everything I was aiming at and kicked like a .22. They worked better than they should. You could work that up to 3/4oz.

I just sent a load off to Tom Armbrust for testing. Cheddite 2 1/2" hull (RST'S), Cheddite 209, 14.5gr Unique, CB 1075-20 wad, 3/4oz 7 1/2 lead, star crimp. I will publish results if they test good.
One modification I had to make to the MEC 600jr was using a 1/8" short kit build-up piece to get the adjustment I needed at the crimping station. Shells look pretty. |

Thank you, I have a few I extrapolated from other data that I’m getting ready to send off for testing but haven’t yet. I’ll let you know as well after I send them out

Unique is a very good powder. We use it for 20g too. Too bad it's an Alliant powder and hard to find. That said, if you see any for sale in a shop, yard sale, auction, etc, BUY IT!!

I've been shooting more and more Longshot , cheap and easy to find. In my 20s the load below has been good. Had it tested at Precision, use at your own risk!
Cheditte 2 1/2" plastic hulls Cheditte primers 16.0 gr Longshot SP-20s wad 7/8 oz 7 1/2 shot 6 pt crimp Again, tested at Precision at 1183 FPS avg. and 7247 PSI avg. Busts the clays and dumps quail and doves nicely. Easy to shoot. |

Slight variation to Mr. Doty's recipe because of the SP20s wad.
Cheditte 2-1/2" plastic hull Cheditte 209 (2000) primer Sporting 20M wad 16gr. Longshot 7/8 oz. shot 7-1/2"s 6 point crimp Tested at Percision, 1,114 FPS av. velocity. 6,772 PSI av. pressure. |

I figured I would need to up the powder a little to 14.5gr because the CB wad is designed for a tapered hull and the wad was a little lose in the Cheddite straight hull. Shot a few today and they broke some long fast angling outgoers. Happy me!!
