Very nice Jerry!

What level of restoration did you do to this gun?

Jerry Andrews 04-12-2011 07:07 AM

Thank you for the compliment, much appreciated. I restocked the gun from a blank. The forend is an original forend. The barrel blue is original. I used the correct over the grip pattern for the stock as well as the original grip cap & buttplate. I've since purchased a stock duplicator so this might be my last stock from a blank. This gun made 292 that I've restocked. I have a Fox Philadelphia Arms Company gun nearly finished now, it's the first one out of the duplicator. The gun looks exactly like a VH Parker in nearly every detail. I think out of the 292 doubles I've restocked 274 have been L.C. Smith guns. I was contacted last year about an article to run in Sporting Classics ( coming out in this next issue) but it was about my fly rods not doubles. One of the Senior editors came to the shop and did the photos and story, Bob McKinney, a really nice guy! Met his wife also, a very elegant person as well. Turns out Bob is double gun guy as well! Lot's of carry over from bamboo rods to double guns I've found. Jerry

I think it stems from a deep appreciation of all of the finer things of a true sportsman's life. We may not all be able to afford to own all of these things but we certainly can appreciate them.

So true! It's why I started making rods, I could not afford to buy a classic of good quality. I started commercial sales after making 50 or so rods I gave away or nearly gave away. I LOVE the Garrison and Dickerson tapers. The most requested tapers are the 8013 or 8014 Dickerson and the 209E Garrison. Also the 7613 and 7614 Dickerson are quite popular too. I fish nearly everything with a 8013 I made a few years ago. I flame them hard, they are fairly light for bamboo and pretty quick for bamboo. It's just another sickness and illness!
Was looking at the internal fitting of a Parker last week, I swear they fit the internals as carefully as they outside! Those guys were really craftsman. Jerry
