Can anyone help me with what is required for me to ship a shotgun (No FFL) to a buyer in the USA.
Thanks in advance..
Mike..

You're shipping without an FFL or TO someone without an FFL? Enormous difference there.

A post 1898 shotgun cannot be shipped to someone in another state who doesn’t have a FFL. Period. Federal law. If the buyer claims to be a Federal Licensee you need to get a valid copy of his FFL before shipping.

Got it, the buyer needs an FFL, but I do not, either way I need a copy of the buyers or his agents FFL.
Thanks,
Mike..

Correct Mike. If the buyer has a CR (Curio/Relic) license you may sell to him directly, but he would have let you know if he did I would think.

Make sure the FFL you are shipping to, accepts from non-FFL holder. Some will not.

I always have my gun Club ship my guns for me, avoids a lot of hassle.

Got it,
Thanks all...

You will have to ship through the post office if you ship it yourself. The post office will require a copy of the receiving FFLs license. UPS and FedX will not accept guns from non FFLs or even FFLs who do not have an account with them. If you ship to an FFL you will need to send a copy of your drivers license with the gun so they can log it into their books from you.

Got it, a copy of my drivers license, a copy of the buyers FFL, I have a commercial account with the Post Office, so its definitely going that way.
I will also include a few copies of the bill of sale as well.
Thanks to all again for the help..

Also, now that I think about it, having never shipped a long gun by mail, what would be considered adequate for a shipping box/container ? How rough is the USPS on that type of shipment, normally ?
