English Walnut on a Parker

1 Attachment(s)
I have an old stock blank set that I originally bought to use on an upgraded Parker .
That is not happening now, so I was thinking about maybe using it on a Parker trap gun project.
I like quality wood on a shotgun, maybe more than engraving.
The project gun is a 1935 vent rib trap gun with 32" barrels. If I went forward, this gun would become my clays gun. Wood is from Cecil Fredi 20 plus years ago.
How big of a crime would this be?
Here's the wood:

None of my buisness but ......... , if it’s anywhere near fitting me I’d shoot the wood on it and set the blocks back for possible later projects .

It would be nice to use that Fredi blank on that gun to make a proper stock and forend for it.

JMHO of course.

I would have the existing wood duplicated, and keep the original wood.
This is just a concept at this point, but if I move forward, I will sell something I'm not using to finance the deal.
If this comes together, I would love to go back to some of those SxS shoots and smash those Fox and LC Smith guys ;-)

Well, it is your gun. Do what you want.

You did not say what grade the gun is.

The species would be plenty appropriate for a D or higher. But would of course not be correct for a V or G. American walnut would be “correct” for that.

It has great grain flow for a PG.

Brian, it's a VHE.

Cecil had and still has some nice wood. It certainly is over the too for a VHE, but its sorta what floats your boat. I would say save the original stock and restock the gun to fit you. Nothing worse then a lovely blank sitting in a closet nit being used. Short answer is write the check and go for it. PS. What does the other side of the blank look like?

Just curious, what’s wrong with the stock that’s on the gun now?

Dean Romig 06-08-2022 06:21 AM

The existing stock looks like it might be a DelGrego replacement, what name is on the recoil pad?
