Roundel Variation
1 Attachment(s)
An interesting twist on a CHE Roundel was recently listed on GI. I do not recall seeing a Roundel with that type of border previously. Nice looking IMO.
No need to sprint to your computers fellas, it's a 12 ga with 30" barrels with some issues :rotf: |
That one is a little different for sure. The trigger plate is just as interesting.
The V grade forend wood on it is a curiosity. From the poor fitment it looks like it is just a replacement from another gun. The barrels are Titanic though. |
If it were 32” I’d most likely bite !

What’s a Roundel ?

Craig:
The dog in the side panel engraving is circumscribed in a round "frame", not an oval. (as per initial post.) Bruce Day post excerpt from a previous thread on this Forum : ''...Then only a small percent of C's made between 1900 and 1905 have rondelle side panels. I believe these were engraved by a single, unknown individual. Some C's have rather standardized engraving, but from what I seen, when there are rondelle side panels the floor plate engraving will be unique to that gun...." Here, thanks to Dean's recent post, is a photo of the oval "framing" of the dog engraving. |
Note that the gun pictured above is a D grade, not a C. Most “Roundel” engraved guns were C grades. But there are examples of B grades done in that style. As well as Double Roundel motifs. I recall even seeing a G grade Roundel once.
I personally attribute the influence for the design to be Loy. |

And we have a member who beat me out on a Damascus 16 GH on Gunbroker 14 years ago that has factory roundel panels.

That was the GH that I was thinking of Dean. It is an oddity for sure.
|
Right abd it’s very likely to be one of a kind for a G.

Interesting. So, is the proper spelling of the term, describing this engraving feature, rondelle or Roundel?
