I left Colorado on the 30th of September and my season literally started with a BANG! An Oregon drivers fell asleep at the wheel and came into my lane and side swiped my 2020 Tundra knocking off my driver side mirror and scrapping the heck out of my truck (which only has 5000 miles on it :banghead:). Thanks heavens as it could have been worse going down I 80 at 85 MPH. I told my brother and friend to go ahead and hunt and I’d catch up with them later that evening. They had a great afternoon on ruffed grouse.
October first is the opening of sharp tailed grouse. We hunted two separate properties that were loaded with grouse. We estimate that we saw over 70 birds on the two properties as well as 3 coveys of Huns. Great day and lots of good dog work even though it was 75 degrees in the afternoon. Friday we hunted valley quail and chukars and found plenty of both. Chukars can be maddening! We had one huge covey burn our biscuits bad. Yesterday it was just my brother and I. What a day! 8 coveys of Huns and plenty of sharp tails. We hunted on a piece of the Oregon trail that was really spectacular and neat to see the remains of history. Here are some photos from the past couple of days. Andy and I will hunt most of this week so I post more later... |

Great scenery Shawn. How about some dog pics for us dog guys and girls. Wouldn't really be hunting without them now would it? :)

I have been following your brothers Facebook page. Appears to be an exceptional year for all species. Beautiful scenery, keep the pictures coming. Scary situation with your truck, thank God it wasnt worse. I'm packing up for my UP trip now. Leaving next Thursday the 15th and coming back Nov 2, bird #'s appear to be good there also. I will be shooting 20's there, but I also love to carry my GH 16 and Quality O 16 hammer gun.

Hunting upland
Shawn I am so envious of your hunting adventures. I lost my Brit last spring to cancer but will have new pup in Nov . Another Brit female like Dessa but orange and white. Covid has cancelled my NM blue quail hunt this year but I am doing some S Tx dove hunts badly missing my dog. Thanks for posting your pic. Tell me the website to go follow your hunts again. Email me at dboyles@republicranches.com. Thx so much and be safe and have great a season!!!
