Parker gun shield
Parker Brothers inlaid a silver or gold shield into the butt stocks of all grades , other than Trojans with none. So here is the question !!
If a person wanted his/her initials engraved on the shield, how would you know the arrangement of first name, middle name & last name as engraved on the shield. Example---Allan Harry Swanson----would it be AHS or ASH. What would tell the difference in the arrangement?? Example please. Allan |
Monograming is sort of a lost art today and figure there has to be a rule to how the letters are arranged and sized. (at least with an interwoven monogram).
I know that the Last initial would a lot of times be in the middle if the letters are all side by side (ie: ASH in your case). And usually the middle letter (for last name) would be slightly larger. Some of the old world interwoven monograms can be a struggle to decipher the letters let alone speculate on the order of them. I suppose if you were wanting your own gun engraved with your initials, the answer would be however YOU want it to be. |
my understanding of traditional mongram etiquette is the the middle letter in larger and represents the last/family name - then first on the left, middle on the right
none of my shields are engraved - I guess you would need an example that letters to the original buyer to see how Parker did it |
.....ASH

What if you never paid attention before, you have a gun with no references to the owners or PGCA records. My gun just has the three equal size initials. What comes first ,the chicken or the egg ??
I agree if one of the letters is larger& in the middle---most likely the family name. Allan |

As long as we are on the monogram subject, any thoughts on these letters from a DEO-Grade Remington --

In general...if all letters same size, first, middle, last.
As Mr. Dudley says, if middle letter larger it is first last middle. |
