My One and Only.....
1 Attachment(s)
Not wanting to steal Russ's thread. This is my one and only deer. Taken on December 19th 1998 at 7:20 AM 170lbs. Taken with a 54 Cal. Thompson Center caplock muzzle loader with a round ball. Amazing thing though he ran almost 100 yards after being hit and when I dressed him out his heart was exploded. Adrenaline is an amazing thing. I was alot younger then....

Dave ;That is a mighty fine Buck ,First and last ??? Have you continued hunting White Tails ,or did you just not enjoy it ? Or have you not been blessed with another opportunity ! And as far as " My Thread " Always feel free to join in ,thats what we are doing here ! Russ

Russ, I continued to hunt for a few more years but I found myself drawn more and more to the upland life. Here in CT you can just about walk out your door and arrow a deer.Larry works pretty hard at it and has great success.

OK now fess up what make of vehicle did you use to run him over with:rotf:
I haven't killed a buck with a front stuffer...yet. They can be dead on their feet and go amazing distances. I like to shoot them right on the point of the shoulder, you lose some burger but don't have to chase them. |
I've never had to take more than one shot to kill a buck and never had a deer go more than 50 yards. The first five were with my Model 94 .30 -.30 and the others were with my Ruger .270 but then, I've never taken a shot at a running deer.

Thats a good'en. Done right round ball did u use black powder how many grains. I don't think they should use thoes modern muzzeloders with all thoes modern gadgets heck they end up with a 45-70 or better. ch

Calvin, It was 100 grains of Pyrodex and a patched round ball. That was the load that particular gun shot the most consistantly.
