Hi folks,

My name is Geoff, and I just found a side by side, damascus barrel, which is believe is a Parker. When I get access I will check into the for sale forums, but I do have a question for right now.

I am a full time bladesmith (5 Elements Forge) and I bought this piece primarily for the damascus. I figured that I could use the material for fittings, or perhaps some other kind of artistic project. But if the barrels are of value to someone, then I would be happier to move them onto someone who will value them more than I do.

I don't have good measurements or pics yet, but this is what I know. Length is 29 7/8ths, bore measures 11/16th (15 Ga?), serial # 206674 below that is OE. On the barrels are the letters BH 3 and the numbers "4" over "5".

I want to be respectful of the history of the piece, but if there is little or no real value, then I can repurpose it and not feel to badly about it.

Thanks
Geoff

pictures please

does it say Parker Brothers ?

you can check the Grades links on the home page to compare to your gun

that serial number is a little late for damascus

but stranger things have happened

Thanks for your fast reply.

I don't doubt that you are right, but what tells you that, if you don't mind?

They are O Grade LC Smith Ejector barrels. The OE grade stamp denotes that. The serial # dates them to 1906 and I got that from a book. I know just by looking at them and having owned several just like them. I would like to know what gauge they are. Do you have anything to measure the bore?

I measured them with a ruler at 11/16ths at the muzzle. I need to go to the shop for a set of calipers, which I will do a in a bit. 16 ga, at a guess.

Measuring the muzzle will give you choke constriction, not necessarily bore diameter, or chamber dimensions (and therefore gauge)

I have measured the breech, and I believe that they are in fact 12ga. My calipers plus my inexpert use of them gives me 0.800 +/-, plus a 12ga shell fits cleanly into the breach.

Is .800 the outside diameter? Normal 12 gauge bore diameter is .729.
