Henry P. Davis - anyone have any info?

I recently received a research letter that indicated a gun I own was ordered by a Henry P. Davis who was the Secretary of the "American Wildlife Institution"

This was an early conservation organization that was active in the 1930s through the early 50s. They published a bimonthly magazine, but availability is limited to a few university collections.

I am wondering if this gentleman was the same Henry. P Davis who was a writer for Sports Afield, published books on gun dog training and also wrote the forward for Nash Buckingham's Bloodlines.

Anyone have any information that might point me in the right direction?

My assumption is that they are one and the same person.

Would LA84 Foundation yield any answers?

He won the top OWAA award in 1958 - the second year it was given out.

If anyone here has any information on this gentleman - I'd love to hear from you.

LA84 Foundation is much too old for Henry P. Davis references. I believe he wrote for American Field and other dog publications primarily. Google is full of Henry P. Davis dogs references. He knew something about bird guns also. I still have an American Field where he advertised a Model 21 16 gauge skeet gun for sale.

Training Your Own Bird Dog by Henry P Davis was the first sporting book I purchased well over 50 years ago. There is a picture in the book of Mr. Davis standing beside a Setter on point in a coat and tie. In his arms is a side by side that appears to me to be a Parker with a beavertail forearm and I would guess 26 inch barrells. There is a picture on the back of the dustjacket of him with a pointer and side by side. In that picture you can only tell that the gun is a side by side. Sounds like you found gun with alot of history and if I tcould talk I would love to be there to listen

There is also a picture Henry Davis, Holbart Ames and Nash Buchingham judges of the 1936 National Bird Dog Championship This Championship is still held at Ames Plantation.
