Anyone familiar with these shells
 

I have an oppertunity to purchase these Federal shotgun shells for $100 for 20 boxes. Anyone have any experience with these? Pressures? When these were produced? Thanks Phil

The thing I noticed was the 3 1/4 dram eq. Might be a bit stiff or snappy for a vintage gun. I personally prefer 3 or better yet 2 3/4 or still better 2 1/2 dram eq. If your outfit is in good condition she will probably take it but the older I get the more I like lite loads. That's just me, I try and go as easy as I can on the older guns. Nice price though on the case. Mark

Yes I am in complete agreement. I like the lower pressure shells for the reduced recoil for my shoulder as much as for the shotgun I am shooting. At 3 1/4 drams I'm sure they will be a little bit snappy. I am guessing these shells are from the early 70's. Just hoping to find some information. I have a well made Forgeron along with a Remington Parker that will handle these loads I'm sure.

Not ideal, but not really heavy, either. I wouldn't think a 3 1/4 - 1 oz. would be too rough on a gun in good condition

12ga 1 ounce 3 1/4 dr. eq. would be approximately 1290 fps loads. Just my opinion but they I wouldn't pay $5 box for those. If they were Winchester CF hulls, absolutely. Unless you know how they've been stored and what they've been exposed to, I'd just purchase new promo ammo for the same price.

I would also say the 70's on mfr.

FITASC loads
 

Those would make great FISTAC loads. They're great loads for shooting doves and things like that and I don't know what part of the country you are in, but five bucks a box is pretty darn cheap. They will kick a little bit because of the roughly 1300 ft./s velocity. I would not shoot them in an older gun. But, they will all go bang when you pull the trigger.

Im in AZ and can shoot Eurasian dove year around. Easy to burn up a lot of shells in a morning. Im just getting soft. Like my 20 and 28 for reduced recoil. But a guy can hardly reload for 20 cents a piece.

At $5 a box and made in the '70s just a few years from being collectible if not there already. If the box design is old they are worth twice that to add to a collection. I'd buy them and just put them away or shoot them up in and auto for that price.

i think the guys are dead on in the 70 smade..i think they are a good by myself...i would shoot them in my damascus barrel guns without a secound thought...charlie
