Repro A1 SPL standard production engaving
Any of us own or looked close at, in person, one of the standard engraved A1 spl. guns? If so how do you like the engraving quality and engraved pictures of the setters and backgrounds? I may buy one of these and have never held one in my hands to know how well they are finished. The pictures just can't show the quality and detail....Thanks all SXS ohio....(-:

I have a 12 ga A1 repro with factory or standard engraving. I like it very much. Not sure how the Japanese did them. Some say they were roll stamped, laser applied, then hand cut or enhanced. I do not know, but mine looks like it was all expertly done by hand. I've seen different variations of "factory" A1 repro engraving, not all have dogs like mine, some have birds, there is one on GI or GB with ovals. I'm sure there are folks here who know far more than I who can answer better.

The factory booklet says the A1 was hand engraved....Looks to be the wash they used in place of color case though....)-: The engraving looks busy compared with old time work. I am sure it looks great in hand...thanks Kenny

I would like to see the page in the catalog that says that the A-1 was "hand engraved".

I wish someone could tell us with certainty how it was done because I would like to know too, maybe R. Skeuse. G. Gournet could not tell me for sure.

Any of the tri fold PR broshures will tell you the A1-s were hand engraved. See Parker paper ...thanks Kenny

Jack Skeuse says they are hand engraved in Stuart Williams' interview.

I think the quality of engraving is equal or better than that on some of the other factory engraved pieces I have.

Thanks all,.. I have bought the one I was looking at, A1 spl... SG-DT SF two barrel set in 20ga. Oak and leather case 99% show little or no use. About 300 made and only 10% had double triggers...that's about 30 guns in all. SXS ohio
