just curious

What is a brand new 28 gauge with 26" bbls, single trigger, SSBP, in the case with canvas cover worth?

Greg Baehman 06-28-2014 11:33 AM

It's worth whatever someone's willing to pay for it.

But, in general it's worth ~$3,750.00 with uninspiring wood and ~$4,500.00-$5,000.00 with a knock-out piece of wood. If you would have asked this same question about 6 years ago I would have guesstimated about a grand or so higher. The market seems to be improving, but it ain't back yet . . .

Mike Franzen 06-28-2014 12:07 PM

Thanks for the opinion. I was thinking maybe the 4500 range but I have no experience with these guns.

I think Wild Skies is awfully close. He has been watching the market!
Double triggers go for more. Beaver tails go for more. 28" barrels go for more.
And, wood is from fairly plain to "WOW!" and will cost more.

I think Greg is spot on. I talked to Dave at Jaqua's, he mentioned they have taken on consignment the estate of someone who bought a large number of close-out repros several years ago, now on GI & their website. He thinks repros are starting to "come into their own", especially the scarcer and more desirable variations, but of course he has some inventory to unload. Anyway, we may look back before long with nostalgia and remind ourselves that we knew they were a bargain.

They are definitely a bargain now. The least desired models and options go for no more than the original retail, ($3370).

Gerry Addison 06-29-2014 03:59 PM

I have to say that I can't find any 28GA Repro's for anywhere close to $3370. I think $4000 is about base price on a "new" gun he was asking about and I think it will be hard to find a "new" 28 for 4K. Put double triggers on it and a beavertail with straight grip and Q1 & Q2 chokes and you are over 5K. This is just taken from my personal experience lately and I agree they have been down and are starting to come back. Looked at several at the Louisville gun show yesterday and no 28 was under 5K and one with double triggers and beavertail had an asking price over 6K but that is gun show pricing.

So if I can get one for 3700 - 3800 it would be a good buy?

Dean Romig 06-30-2014 06:52 AM

Yes it would.

Gerry Addison 06-30-2014 07:39 AM

Yes it would be a good buy as far as I'm concerned.
