Another long barreled, small-bore

Been chasing this one for quite a while. "The Book" says only 221 20
ga. V-grades were made with 32" barrels and with a straight stock I imagine this is actually a fairly rare bird.

Looks like the colors have been redone as they are a little over the top but it's a really sweet gun that balances very well. Per the letter, the gun was sold in October 1917 to Walter Cooley, Place Hardware, San Francisco, CA for $45 Specs (all letter):

20 ga VHE
DAH = 2-1/4"
DAC = 1-5/8"
LOP = 14-1/4"
#1 Frame
2-7/8" chambers (letters)
32" barrels choked Full/Full
Weight: 6-lbss. 12-ozs.

Very nice Jay. Take a little Flitz very carefully to those colors and you can tone them down a little. Looks like a great shooter.

Thanks, Eric. Can't wait to get it out to the range. I am really excited to have this one in my safe. Certainly not a grouse gun but it will be hell on doves and, if I can find suitable non-tox loads I am thinking it will be fun for woodies and teal. Stay tuned…

Hope to be out at the shoot on the 10th. If so I'll bring it with me.

Cheers

Great gun. And nice quartered oak roll top desk too!

Beautiful piece. With a @ 2-1/4" DAH, whoever ordered it in 1917 was an experienced shooter. Those dimensions would have been more typical on English doubles at the time.
It must handle like a dream.

I agree, the fellow who ordered the gun know exactly what he wanted. The fun comes up like a dream. The ivory mid-bead has been knocked off and I will replace. It's so sleek and the lines are wonderful.

Very nice Jay!

I've been looking for this configuration for quite a while myself.

Very nice Jay!! I bet at just about 7 pounds and with 3" chambers the barrels are good and stout too. The case colors aren't too over the top, she'll wear in nice.

I'll take a picture of the muzzles. There is quite a bit of steel in both tubes.
