October Dreaming

1 Attachment(s)
My setter, Willow, went on point in my door yard this afternoon and wouldn't budge despite my pleading. I thought she was just reliving days gone by but after about 10 minutes I thought she lost her mind. After a short search I found this "PAT" in a nearby apple tree. Thank God one of us has some savvy and proper breeding.

The hardest grouse to hit when they finally flush are the ones you see first either on the ground or in a tree. You think you have them dead to rights but you wind up psyching yourself out and miss cleanly when they flush. I love to see them budding like that but they look like sitting ducks to all the birds of prey. Thank the Great Spirit there are always enough of them in the spring for 'seed stock'.

By the way, I count eight months, three days, nine hours and thirteen minutes :coffee:

Shooting them on the groud or in a tree??? I thought you were,nt supposed to do that!!!! Of course I've never hunted "PATS"..

Ahhh... I think you misunderstood my statement Angel. I'll go back and modify it.

It's funny how the length of a month changes as time goes by. I was a Maine Game Warden for almost 25 years and during that time October and November seemed like it was 8 months long. I guess when you are working 100 hours a week that happens. Now that I no longer have to live vicariously through other sportsman and actually have time to get out with my dogs October seems as it is only 3 days long while January is at least 10 weeks long. Oh well it will be here before we know it and I will still be unprepaired.
