Happy 238th Birthday to all Marines!
PGCA Members and Forum Associates,
Today, 10 November 2013 is the 238th Birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps. We Marines celebrate the founding of our Corps to pay tribute to our fellow Marines of today and yesterday, and especially to those who although no longer with us, have a place setting at our table. To my fellow Marines and any Navy Corpsmen who served with the Corps, Happy Birthday and Semper Fidelis! A Tribute to Harry Marshall, USMC
Today my wife and I attended a memorial service for our recently deceased good friend Harry T. Marshall III, USMC, wounded in action in Vietnam 7-4-68 for which he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was one of only three left standing that day and he saved a lot of lives fighting on through his two wounds, one a rifle shot. Harry used to like to say he thought he would join Thomas Jefferson as having died on July 4, as he witnessed the Viet Cong who shot him.
Harry was a direct descendant of Colonel Charles Marshall, General Robert E. Lee's aide-de-camp, and was related to Chief Justice John Marshall and General George Marshall of WWII fame. Harry, who enlisted during Vietnam, was a true Virginian, Southerner, American hero, and proudly ALWAYS A MARINE! |
Mark, David, Dennis and all other Marines here, Happy Birthday and Semper Fi.

I just finished watching an excellent documentary about the Marines at the battle of Wake Island - the Alamo of the Pacific. There were a small group of survivors from that long ago battle, each remembering their part in the events that took place; combined with file footage from WW-II, it made a memorable documentary. I learned a lot from watching it.
Those guys set the bar very high for themselves and all the Marines that have followed. The US Marines continue to keep these traditions strong. Well done guys! |
