My local guy here in CT is starting to get rifle powders in.

Rick Losey 06-27-2014 05:36 PM

IMR rifle powders have not been hard to find here

stopped in a shop looking for shot- they didn't have any

so as an after thought, I looked in the powder magazine and found a bottle of PB and one of a rifle powder I use and a bottle of IMR SR4756 - so the stop was worth while.

but things still seem to be trickling in around here.

Bruce Parham 06-27-2014 07:44 PM

Recob's has magnum shot at $41.99 per bag with two bag shipping of $13.90. That's right at $49 a bag but, if you really need it, it's there.

If you're in the SoCAl area, Philips Wholesale has the Peruvian stuff for $38 a bag but he is walk-in only, no shipping.

Same situation here Rick, there seems to be alot of IMR and Alliant rifle powders on the shelves, but no shotgun powders. I found some WAA Lite the other week and bought 2 lbs without even knowing much about it. After reviewing the loads available with it, it seemed great for nice, low recoiling 12 ga loads. Stopped back in the same store Wed and bought the rest of it(3 lbs), so now have 5 lbs of it. Unfortunately, it seems limited to 12 ga use only.
At another store, all that was available was Steel and 410, along with lots of rifle powders. Since it was pouring rain, I continued on to Wheeling's Cabelas- no shotgun powder but they were putting out .22's, $18/box of 333, 1 per customer.

Dave Suponski 07-05-2014 04:49 PM

Just picked up 5 lbs of SR 7625 and 2 more pounds of HodgdonTitewad. I'm a happy guy! And the nice thing is they have more.

Robert Rambler 07-05-2014 05:01 PM

Was in Cleveland Ohio today, Fin,Fur and Feather has 8lb RedDot for 129.00 and 4lb 700x on the shelf.

John Campbell 07-12-2014 11:54 AM

I just scored 8 lbs of Red Dot. There isn't a lot out there, but it's good to know there is some.

wayne goerres 07-12-2014 01:37 PM

I would like to get some bulls eye. I found some a wile back and gave it to a freind and know I cant find any for me.

Rick Losey 07-12-2014 05:09 PM

I stopped by the shop I have been getting powder at right along- and asked to see the "in stock" list

they said they had NO powder at all and would not until at least the end of the month

since I had gone for shot and they at least had #8's (that was it) the trip was not a loss

Harold Lee Pickens 07-19-2014 08:09 AM

Cabelas in Wheeling had around 15 1 lb bottles of Longshot last night. I bought 2 bottles, because I had seen a lot about it on the 16 ga forum.
Unfortunately, it is used mostly for heavy 16 ga loads, so it may have little use for me. I did find some 1 oz loads I could use, but I rarely shoot an ounce load except in my Fair Rizzini 600 16 OU(I know, but it does have double triggers.) There are some nice 3/4 oz 20ny gauge loads listed, but I have been using Green Dot for them.
Anybody have any light 16 ga loads with Longshot to share?
Also picked up a box(333) of .22's for $18.
Found a pound of PB at a gun shop Wed, and picked it up.

Paul Harm 07-19-2014 03:10 PM

We just ordered 24lbs of 800X, 16 of 700X, and I personal got 16lbs of Promo at 88$/8lbs. Was told they had some 8 pounders of 7625. They have all the shot, wads and primers we want, just not the " dot " powders.

charlie cleveland 07-19-2014 09:01 PM

i got a email from ballistic reloading today said they had powder to sell...charlie

Eric Grims 07-22-2014 10:33 AM

Got an email response from RST today saying they are about to receive Niceshot and could have loads available by the end of August.

Mills Morrison 07-22-2014 10:40 AM

I am hoping RST gets their 10 gauge shells restocked. My 10 gauge guns need to be shot.

Bill Murphy 07-28-2014 05:26 PM

Paul, can you confirm the $11.00 a pound prices you quoted?

Paul Stafford 07-28-2014 05:33 PM

That is cost from Dawson's in Ohio.

Pete Lester 07-29-2014 11:47 AM

They are still making runs on the bank so to speak. Powder Valley announced this morning on Facebook they had a nice shipment of Alliant Powders that included 8 lb jugs of Clay Dot, Promo and Unique. In well less than an hour it was gone. Heading for almost a year and a half since starting this thread the powder shortage is as bad as ever.

paul stafford jr 07-29-2014 02:06 PM

I belive mr harm is giving wholesale prices. my club price for promo is 97.00 and 120.00 for non members. 7625 is up to 26.00 a pound for members , 36.00 for non. that price on the promo was for a 8LB

edgarspencer 07-29-2014 02:10 PM

Now I feel even better about the unopened 5 pounder I got for $70. It's the old style metal can that looks like a tall gallon of paint thinner.

Harold Lee Pickens 07-29-2014 10:57 PM

I had to go to a meeting in Columbus, Oh , today and stoped at Buckeye Outdoors/Vance Supply and they did not have a single pound of shotgun powder on the shelves. This spring, I had bought several pounds of International and PB there.

paul stafford jr 07-30-2014 10:13 PM

we got some powder in at the club this week , I bought a lot of it, going to get whats left tomorrow , snooze ya loose

John Campbell 07-31-2014 07:36 AM

My local "outfitter store" has a decent supply of Red Dot. My Visa card will be in use today!

Frank Srebro 08-05-2014 08:14 AM

For those who like Hodgdon Clays, International and Universal - the Australian company that produced these powders for Hodgdon is now reporting that the "production issue" of last year was resolved but then a "burn event" occurred in the dryer part of its process when it was brought back on line earlier this year. Net, latest word is their shotgun powders will not be available until late this year, and then the company will have to work through the order backlog. I don't use any of these powders myself but I thought I'd pass the word. It sounds like those who do might not see any on the shelves until next year.

Where did that info come from? Good news I suppose, but it doesn't explain the severe shortage of all shotgun powders, not sure what I believe at this point given the prolonged empty shelves at every retailer.

Rick Losey 08-05-2014 09:32 AM

A fire at the plant that makes Clays and available later this year is what I was told earlier this year at one of the better shops I stop at often.

Frank Srebro 08-05-2014 11:19 AM

Info I posted earlier today came from a personal source in the industry.

Mills Morrison 08-12-2014 10:01 AM

A cousin sent this to me and I thought the group may be interested.

This site tracks which vendors have ammo and what their current price is.

Primers

I was at Bruno Shooting Supply in Phoenix, AZ yesterday and he had 40,000 Remington 209 Primers. Lots of pistol and rifle but limited shotgun powders. Hope this helps

Pete Lester 08-21-2014 09:14 AM

I was reading some of the threads on Trapshooters.com about powder availability at the Grand American shoot earlier this month. This is the biggest trapshoot in the country with a lot of vendors in attendance. From what I read only one vendor, Graf Supply, had any powder to sell and they say it was a limited quantity. Graf would only sell powder as part of a package of primers and wads included to prevent hoarding but that irritated some folks who needed powder but not primers and wads. If only one vendor had a limited supply of smokeless powder at the Grand American the shortage of powder remains severe.

Greg Baehman 08-21-2014 01:53 PM

It was reported on the shotgunworld.com reloading forum that the ADI plant that produces the Clays line of powders for Hodgdon is up and running again. According to a Hodgdon rep the 1st batch of powders has arrived at Hodgdon and are going through their quality assurance for testing.

If the above is actually true and factual we may see some Clays powders in a few months and if Clays is once again available that should ease the demand for alternative powders.

Good to hear, late summer availability was the timing I got from a dealer months ago, sounds promising

Mills Morrison 09-04-2014 06:54 PM

RST 10 gauge back in stock. Just ordered a flat of No. 8's. All of my 10's will be happy

Powder on the way!

I spoke with a gentleman from Hogdon recently and he stated that there is a quantity of Clays Universal on the boat, on the way from Australia. He further stated that Clays International will be next and that Clays should be here shortly after the first of the year(2015). He further told me that an air handling unit in the powder drying room caused a spark which subsequently ignited the plant. They had it repaired for some time before they could get the local inspectors to come by and give the powder complex their final approval for production. He stated that those folks down there don't seem to get in a hurry about anything. I think that the information is accurate as it couples with several different sources that I have sought out on this question....We will see.

My local dealer just got a shipment of Alliant powder - Clay dot, Red dot, Green dot in 1 & 8 pound. 20/28 in only 1 pound. Prices were reasonable too. Clay dot at $110 for 8# and $18 for 1# of Green dot. Not sure what the others were priced at. They also had Eagle magnum shot for $37.

Craig Larter 09-29-2014 12:27 PM

Gary: Please post or PM we the name of your dealer. Thanks Craig

paul stafford jr 09-29-2014 12:29 PM
