Some grouse hunter introduced me to Balvenie 12yr at the end of the day on the tailgate at the RGS national hunt one year and that's been my favorite since. Haven't yet tried their 16yr old....

Hey Richard, what year were you at the National Hunt? I was a guide there in 1988 or '89--cant remember exactly

Yes Sir Allen. I'm primarily a Bourbon guy but when it comes to Scotch I'm with you on the Glenmorangie. Very good drink.

At one time I drank scotch. When I was in the service I was at a bar with my Sargent (we had the same last name) and ordered a scotch. He asked "why do you drink that^%t). I like it I replied. He then asked if my parents drank scotch and when I replied yes he said I drank it cuz it was the only think I could steal from the cabinet.

I'm a bourbon drinker through and through.:)

Allen, Glenmorangie IS a Highland scotch. The peaty, smoky scotches you describe, like Lagavulin and Lafroig, are Islay scotches. Much as I like scotch whisky, you will find no Islay scotches in my home. They remind me of my teen years, siphoning gasoline by mouth.
