Mark you know as well as I do that a heavier gun swings better than a light one so that's another reason you should give up a bird what with a 10 lb 10ga VS my 5 1/2lb 28.
Mills we need to keep track someway so the winner can buy beer.....unless your volunteering:corn: |
Mark, I like the idea of the "gun switch" challenge, but I know you've at least got a 36in 10ga Parker, and that might not even be the longest or heaviest gun you could bring. We've had a lot of cool ideas thrown out here for "events", I hope someone is keeping track so we can remember them all come Wednesday.
Mike I have them all committed to memory:eek:

Rich just wants someone else to buy the beer!

Some of us Southern Boy are "tuning up" on Wed afternoon. It is sometimes refereed to as a home course advantage!
Mark You have it backwards, as you are known to do. We should get a bird for every pound lighter and inch shorter our little whippy guns are to yours. Oh, the hell with it-Rich is buying the beer!!:bigbye: David |
Rich and David,
I shoot low gun. By the end of the course those 9 to 12 pound 10 gauges get mighty hard to raise to my shoulder... Mark |

I'd be all over the winner buys drinks for everyone, if it were just me coming, but Julia is coming too and she will probably kick all of our butts. Her credit card bill comes to me.
As the organizer of this event I do herby proclaim Julia (AKA Mills better half) as the undisputed winner of all events. Drinks on Julia....and Mills:bowdown:
COB, still waiting for my check for allowing the usage of our trademarked and copyrighted handicap system!! :rotf:
DoubleDown, the Mrs will be making the trip with me, maybe we can join you n Thursday since we're arriving Wednesday. The A Grade is ready to rock!!!!

I gotta get a hold of DoubleDown and get directions and stuff for the Thursday shooting. If I (we) can get there I will meet you on the 5-Stand!! This weekend could be legen-wait for it-dary!! No cash or check necessary, just credit for the Rock Mountain Handicap system!! (shameless self promotion) |
Hey you guys otta know Mountain Mike goes spastic if someone is eating a Klondike bar. In fact he has them banned at his club here in PA. Must be a hangup from his youth .... So if he's shooting well, open that cooler and pass out the Klondikes.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! What would you do for a Klondike Bar??
Just trying to help the group if Mike starts shooting "lights out". But really, despite the Klondike hangup he's a good guy :). He's always doing thoughtful things like bringing out cool soft drinks during hot weather when a group of regulars is about 1/2 way around his course, or - as in our severe winter just past - coming out on his quad or Kyote with a carafe of java or hot chocolate when shooters are out in sub freezing and even single-digit temps. :) The owner there at Drakes sounds like he's a good guy too.
Dan Andrews the owner of Drakes Landing IS a wonderful guy who appreciates our business and goes out of his way to make sure we have a good time.
Mike just Google drakes Landing and you can get their address. We will shoot Thursday starting about 9am, at least that's when I'll get to Drakes. Chuck come and shoot a round with us, you won't miss anything at DR. |
Come on Chuck you were suppose to shoot a round with us last year...
I did shoot a round with you guys 2 years ago and had a good time but I feel most of my time should be at Deep River. Unfortunately due to physical problems, I doubt I'll shoot at all this trip.
It's hard to believe but the Southern and all the related events are just a memory, but what a great one it is.
The three days shooting at drakes was wonderful and as always Dan made us feel right at home. His new 100 target course is a masterpiece and he is talking of adding yet another one. it was nice to see some of the Fox and Smith boys out there joining in the fun and I suspect there will be more next year. Thanks to all who joined in the fun and camaraderie of shooting double guns, meeting old friends and making new ones. I know a good time was had by all. |
Ditto, you all
We had a great time at Drake Landing and at The Southern!! This was our first trip to NC to shoot and this is now on our calendar as a yearly event!! It's been a very, very long time since I shot that much in such a short time!!!!!! Even bought my first Parker hammerless gun at the Southern on Thursday afternoon. It's a beautiful DH 30" 12g!!!! Also scored another Fox (CE grade)!! Life is good. :) You guys are a riot to shoot with!! Saw some old friends and met a bunch of new ones. Hope to see y'all at Hausmann's.
A Fox AE followed me home, that is absolutely gorgeous.
Well Mills, tell us a little more about that Fox.....
You did good Mills....
She's a looker Mills.
An end of an era has taken place. Since the beginning of the challenge the Southern has provided me with a new gun (once it was a rifle but a nice Pre 64 M70) or two. this year however nothing followed me home:crying::crying::crying: but there are two candidates that are in the wings:whistle:
Mills, what's the deal with the graded checkering on your new gun? What does the order card say about it? Who was the seller? OK, now I'll give you a rest.
Bill, The gun was featured in Frank Srebro's article in the AHFCA journal, I think Spring 2009. Check it out.
The shooting at Drakes was the best. Thanks Rich for putting it together. I know I will be back next year. I had a great southern, sold the vhe and che. Came home with a great super fox and a first edition of The Wilderness Hunter by TR. Met a bunch of new fox collectors and signed up many new members. Hope to see most everyone at Hausmanns.
Well, I guess not everybody from Wheeling shoots as bad as me. Apparently the 16 and 20 ga events were won by a gentleman from Wheeling. The 16 event was won with a borrowed Sterlingworth and the 20 ga with a Russian
Bakhail. I had talked to this group on Friday at the Southern and on Sat they came up to Drake's Landing--they were blown away with the courses and stated that they would be back to Drakes next year. On a side note. Cabela's Wheeling has a display with 3 CE Foxes (12, 16, 20), and their factory letters--yes they are for sale @ $59,999. Looking forward to seeing everybody again at Hausmann's. |
