I'm fortunate to have a Rigby hammer gun from 1888, a Lang sidelock, and two Stephen Grant sidelocks, one of which is a sidelever.
Just remembered, there is also a Greener in the mix. |
Mr.Murphy:
Have the Grants or Lang been actioned by the great E. C. Hodges? If so, they will have a triangular stamp surmounted by a crown on the action bars... |
John,
Don't know the answer off-hand. Unfortunately, the guns are in South Carolina and I'm in New Jersey. Otherwise I'd look the guns over and give you the answer. I won't be in SC until at least January, so the answer will have to wait. |
My favorite shotgun which I have used extensively is a German J.P. Sauer 12ga, Royal which I had bored Skeet #1 on the right barrel and the left barrel is extra full.
Another gun I enjoy is a British Lancaster made in 1897. It's been sleeved, probably sometime in the 60's. This is a fine old gun, it's an assisted opening gun. It has a slim straight grip. The only problem I have with it is the left ejector doesn't work reliably. But I can still shoot it pretty fast. |

A fine cased matched pair of William Evans full sidelock, stocked to the fences, game guns with Webley screw grip locking in high condition, my shooting guns. Another British game gun, a semi assisted opening 12 gauge Cogswell and Harrison that I have been shooting for many years. It is a sideplated boxlock with hard butt and 30" not too tightly choked barrels. Another is a 33" Greener Royal eight gauge, a bar in wood 34" Westley Richards eight gauge, a British made Alexander McComas 36" eight gauge, Prussian Lindners in 16, 12, 10, and fluid steel 34" 8 gauge, a nice Sauer hammer drilling in 16X16X11.15X65, which chambers 2 1/2" .410s nicely. Other hammerless Sauers in 10 and 12 gauge, and John Phillip Sousa's Diamond Grade Prussian Daly sextuple single barrel. Even with all these fun guns from England and Germany, I still have a Parker to enjoy.
