Charlie, I picked up the Grade 2 Magnum 10 to heft it, comparing to my Super 10's. Sorry I didn't check its price. Check your PM's for a personal note.

Frank that sounds like a lot of fun. I would have liked to see those 12s on the 10 ga magnum frame. Really like those shells. Your article is getting me to wanting a super 10 now.

Eldon From what I seen Ithaca hammerless 10s are pretty pricey . Theres a ithaca grade 4 10ga for sale and its like 3999$ . Also theres a nice flues at pugs that's been restored and they just reduced the price .

Milton I paid a 1000 bucks for mine but it does have some problems. The fore end is messed up and the buttstock is loose. I do not know if I got a good deal but I was not about to pass it up. Hard to find one.

Hows the bores ? MY Bonehill is a ugly ducking it has a rough outward appearance but the bores and nice and shiny ! . IF you got good barrels then nothing is impossible . I paid 1000 for my Ec Green I just got and it has nice wood and metal . but bores could use some polishing . Nothing That Brad B cant work his magic on . I almost bought a Ithaca lewis 10 ga when I was 17 but decided against it . looking back I should got it it was in pretty great condition and it was 1500$ . I know its hard but when you see a hard to find 10ga double my moto is get it ! if you can swing it of course . Theres a flues 10 ga on gunbrker now for 800$ but the barrels are blued and looks to have a home made forend .

The bores are beautiful some of the cleanest barrels I have seen. I do not know if they have been honed as I do not have anything to measure them, but I am think they are untouched.

If it wasn't ever shot with bp then the bores should look good like you say , From what ive read it was shooters not cleaning their barrels after shooting bp that causes pitting . Congrats on the new 10 bore .

black powder residue is hygroscopic and is not good for a bore, and causes rust if left for too long, but I think it gets a bad rap.
Pitting in barrels continued long after smokeless was the norm, much of the pitting we see can be blamed on corrosive primers that left salt compounds in the barrel that were more difficult to remove, and much more dangerous to metal. |
The Western Cartridge Co. Super-X 3 1/2 inch Magnum-Ten cartridge was introduced shortly after the introduction of non-corrosive priming in North American shotgun shells. Our manufacturers all introduced non-corrosive priming in their .410-bore shells in 1930, and in the larger bores in 1931.
