I am really trying to focus on small bores this year. Have only fallen off the wagon once with the VH 10

Harry Collins 06-22-2019 10:25 AM

I'm feeling underprivileged.

I know I’m “underprivileged” , I don’t own a VH 28 and I’ll probably never own a VH 410 :crying::rotf:

Well well the damned old Remington hammers have been evicted from my 4 frame and a pair of Dave Fjelline’s hammers have replaced them ! When the barrels make it back I’m going to pattern it again and in the front yard no less

CraigThompson 06-24-2019 01:19 PM

Also added a pair of Dave’s screws almost forgot about them ! As they weren’t in those previous two pictures .

CraigThompson 06-24-2019 01:21 PM

Don’t think I’ll loose to much sleep over looking for an original four frame stock . Just put this one back together and shoot it some and leave well enough alone .

Mills Morrison 06-24-2019 01:22 PM

Hammers you mean? Looks good and a big improvement

My 4 frame lifter has a replacement stock that is incorrect, but has character and works just fine.

Bill Murphy 06-24-2019 02:24 PM

Mills, did your stock come from another Parker of a different frame size?

Yes sir you are 100% correct ! To many things going on around here , it’s hell when you start having brain farts in your 50’s :rotf:

I am pretty sure it is a handmade job. Looks like they made it oversize so it would not crack

Jeff Kuss 06-24-2019 07:40 PM

Craig,
If you think it is bad in your 50's, just wait!

Heck I can remember the time when I was young I didn’t think I’d reach 35 (I had a bit of a wild/rebellious streak) , so I didn’t really worry about taking care of myself . Now it’s beginning to show LOL’s ! My goal in life now is to live long enough to see our grandson graduate from college , wife and I’ll be 58 in 32 days so I figure we need to see 78 to accomplish the goal

John Dallas 06-25-2019 01:07 PM

Wasn't it Satchel Paige who said "If I had known I was going to live this long, I'da taken better care of myself"?

Mills Morrison 06-25-2019 02:57 PM

Our old neighbor said that and then he said, either that or he would have opened the throttle wide-@$$ open and made sure he didn't make it as long as he did.

I held her open several times but always came out unscathed . And at that time I didn’t care , now that my outlooks changed 180 degrees every morning brings a new ache , pain or limp :rotf:

Also Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones said the samething in an interview!

You’ll never be able to convince me that Keith Richards wasn’t what got the movie folks thinking about “walking dead” “zombies” that type of thing :rotf:

Just got a text from my barrel guru ! As I stated earlier he had already fixed the rib on the four frame gun and now he’s already redone the DH barrels . So it appears I’ll have them in hand Thursday or Friday

My four frame and DH are barreled again ! With two pics of the four frame rib that I thought came out very nicely and a sub standard picture of the DH pattern . Thank you Breck Gorman

CraigThompson 06-27-2019 10:08 PM

I think I’ll put a pad on the DH and remove the blueing from the action . And I’ll be mostly satisfied .

CraigThompson 06-28-2019 11:32 AM

Just shot a shot from each barrel at 25 yards using my 00 buck handloads . Not the greatest but acceptable for my parameters and the POI is now where it should be ! Oh yeah these shells were loaded in brand new unfired hulls , that may or may not make a difference.

These pics should have been in the previouse thread but for some reason they didn't want to download from my I Phone so I went to the laptop and here we are !

CraigThompson 06-28-2019 11:39 AM

And once again this damn site turns my pics side ways !

Shot the 4 frame 0 grade 10 at the range today . 630 grain solid base slugs I cast and loaded a few months back . These were at 25 yards from the bench . I was quite pleased .

000 and 00 from the bench today at 25 yards . Wasn’t so impressed with these but within my parameters a deer will most likely be in trouble if died upon .

CraigThompson 09-25-2019 03:52 PM

The 4 frame I shot these with is the gun Breck Gorman relaid the top rib for me .

Mills Morrison 09-25-2019 04:02 PM

Glad you are getting it out. I need to get some 10 gauge and 8 gauge buckshot myself. You are right the first group looks better.

John Dallas 09-25-2019 04:17 PM

Looks like you're spending more on masking tape than paper. Good! Save a tree!

Dean Romig 09-25-2019 04:24 PM

Pretty decent on the slugs, and that's without rifling!

Did you shoot the 000 and 00 at 25 yards too? What was the average diameter of the spread?

.

Yeah usually I shoot everything at 25 and occasionally at 50 . Never have measured the spread on any of the patterns I’m usually just intrested to see how many of them stayed on the box . Old gun isn’t doing to terribly bad for what i’d call a beater .

I’ve gotten someone I trust to stay in the house with my father , so I can get out for six hours two to four days a week . I have my Ravin crossbow ready , still need some more work with my new Remington 700 Ultimate ML , have my very new Remington 700 6mm-06 ready to go with Berger 6mm 115 grain VLD’s . Have the 338 Federal I got at the Jerry’s going out of buisness sale ready to go and I changed scopes on my Ruger #1H 416 REM Mag as I’d like to plunk one with it . Next week if able I wanna work some more with the ML and check my Mannlicher Schoenauer MC 30-06 carbine with the five loads I had for it last season . Also wanna get the little Ruger #3 that was a 44 Mag and was already a 444 when I got it with two or three of the loads I had for it last season . And last but not least the blued Ruger RedHawk that’s scoped!

When I started messing with 0000 and 00000 home cast buckshot I knew it was going to take a little outside the box execution in loading . But if I had an 8 gauge I bet the .380” (0000) and .395” (00000) would fit pretty well . By fit well I mean inside the SP-8 shotcup where as I remove the SP-10 petals and use a .003 Mylar wrap in my 10’s . Well actually in recent months I’ve started trying that with 000 and 00 as well .

FWIW I was at the range today and had along my nicer 10 lifter . I patterned 0000 and 00000 at 25 yards from both barrels .

Dean Romig 10-02-2019 02:37 PM

Which barrel/choke do these targets represent?

White box is left brown box is right . I don’t think this gun has much if any constriction . But if it gets carried any this year it’s gonna be stuffed with 0000 buck !
