A little sidetrack--one of the courses i like to shoot has a "small bore" course. It is 50 targets laid out in a semicircle. You can shoot it with 1 gun, then are back to your car and can grab a different gun, and go again, etc. Its a great way to shoot a bunch of guns in one day. Also has a 5 stand, and a pyramid/wobble trap. Makes it easy to shoot 4 different guns in an afternoon. Wish more courses were like this--Briar Rabbit in Zanesville, Oh.
Something tells me Mark would not have any trouble shooting those smallbores. Just wrap a little lead tape around the barrels to slow them down a bit.

Wow.. This thread could be its own forum ;)

Let me get off my lazy butt - and move it to the correct forum... I'll leave a redirect in this forum for a while...

Hang tight - this thread is going for a ride....

Sir C O B
I would humbly suggest you institute a handicap system to your hammergun event. Maybe - 2 for 10ga, + 2 for 16ga + 4 for 20 ga and + 10 for 28ga(me:)
Marks 10 against my 28 is blantly unfair!!

David,

Unfair? What about those "in your face targets" that I whack with Big Friend Ten or it's safe mates?

How about this, we both shoot our own guns then trade and shoot the other's gun. Don't tell anyone but I might be able to shoot a grouse gun almost as well as those pack howitzers that I prefer.

Harold Lee Pickens 04-01-2014 01:34 PM

I bet Mark doesnt load much more than a light 12ga load in those 10's. Heck, most of us are now shooting 28 ga loads(3/4oz) in our 12's, 16's, and 20's. I use that as my excuse for poor shooting.

Dave i like the idea of the handicap. We can let Mark take only one shot per target with his big ten then deduct points if he has to shoot again:rotf: I'll bring a couple of 28's just in case he feels like cheating on his Sumo wrestler gun. Anyone have a 410??

Your obedient servant C.O.B.

Mark Ouellette 04-01-2014 03:43 PM

You boys complaining about my big 10's have never shot one for a round of sporting clays. Trust me, it's a whole new adventure!

Of course if you are game I might have a few extra 10's to let you shoot.... :biglaugh:

Mills Morrison 04-01-2014 03:52 PM

Here is what Rich needs to keep up with us big bore folks

I met Tom Knapp when I was at Cabelas, he was a very nice man.

I like the small bores, there cheaper to shoot:whistle:

Is this your new quest?:bigbye:
David

Rich Anderson 04-01-2014 04:47 PM

Lets se who gets one first Mills or Mark.

Mike.Smith 04-01-2014 08:20 PM

As many rounds as we'll be shooting over the weekend, I'm sure I could dedicate one to the 10ga. I've got a nice 32" DHE that I haven't shot as much as I'd like. Mark, Mills, I'll join you in a round!

How about two or three squads each shooting as a team where each person shoots a different gauge gun? Although I wouldn't want to be the guy shooting a 10 against Mark, as I've seen him swing that 36" 10ga.

I want to see that DHE! My only ejector 10 gauge Parker is a PHE and it doesn't have pretty Damascus barrels. It has those darn fluid steel tubes... :crying:

Rich Anderson 04-02-2014 08:45 AM

Squads with different guages sounds like fun...good idea Mike. We will have fun despite the naysayers who don't like shooting outside of Deep River.

I think I remember this gun and Mike did good on this purchase

Mike.Smith 04-02-2014 10:06 AM

Mills, a Super Fox is VERY high on my list. It's right up there in the top spots along with a long barreled Parker 20ga, a 16ga Parker Hammer Gun and a Fox Single Barrel Trap Gun.

Mark, sorry to get you excited, it's actually a DH 10ga, no "E". :crying: But I'm still going to shoot it that week!

Mike

Mills Morrison 04-02-2014 10:16 AM

At least you don't have shells flying out of your gun.

The two Foxes I want are a Super Fox and an early C Grade. The Super Fox has been second on my list next to a Parker 8 for a long time.

A Sterlingworth 16 on the light frame was high on my list, but that one was crossed off this past year. For those of you small bore fans, I highly recommend them. Mine is just a great gun and even has the IC/M chokes

David Dwyer 04-07-2014 07:44 AM

Rich has agreed that we will handicap the Double gun shoot at Drakes.
8&10 ga =-2, 12=O, 16ga =+3, 20ga=+5, 28ga=+10, +2 for a hammergun.
This is modeled after the upcoming habitat shoot in Pa. Hope this works for everyone.
David

Daryl Corona 04-07-2014 07:56 AM

Sounds real good David. Although I hate to admit it, shooting a hammergun is no real handicap to me.

David Dwyer 04-07-2014 07:59 AM

Daryl
That is a secret!!! I do occasionally forget to cock the hammers though:)

Daryl Corona 04-07-2014 08:05 AM

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt!

I have been known to do that as well:eek:

Rich Anderson 04-10-2014 11:32 AM

I just got off the phone with Dan at Drake's and he will have lunch for Thursday and will have a course set up for true pairs. Shirts are ordered for those who requested them.

Only two weeks to go, warmer weather (for us northern folks) is on the agenda as well as a real good time. bring guns, shells, appetite and lets have some fun and burn some powder.

David Dwyer 04-18-2014 01:07 PM

Six Days!!! I think there may be some "elsie" guns show up. I mentioned the handicaps(10ga=-2, 16ga =+3, 20Ga=+5, 28ga=+10 410=+15 :hammergun=+5,) and told them "elsie"'s we would give them one target for shooting an inferior gun:) 9 AM Thursday. True pairs in the afternoon, correct Rich? I am pumped!!
David

FRANK HALSEY 04-18-2014 01:11 PM

What about Friday??? Are we shooting the same way? Thanks,Frank

David Dwyer 04-18-2014 01:29 PM

Frank
I am shooting Deep River on Friday and Sat:their small ga course , five stand and qualifier.
David

FRANK HALSEY 04-18-2014 01:32 PM

I will be also shooting the 5-stand and small gauge but in the morning, I will be at Drakes to shoot a round. Just wonder if the rules are the same on both days at Drakes. Thanks, Frank

Eric Eis 04-18-2014 02:13 PM

Frank, as far as I know we will be shooting at Drakes on Friday too so hope see you there.

Rich Anderson 04-18-2014 03:18 PM

We can do true pairs on Thursday afternoon not a problem. frank we will shoot Friday am at Drakes then probably head to Deep River in the afternoon to look at guns etc. The handicap system will be in place for the entire weekend. I'll have 12,16,20 & 28ga with me. Hammerguns in 12 &16.

Hey, count me in! I want to shoot too. What handicap do I get for an 11-ga hammer gun with a pop-up flag to remind me to cock the hammers?

Rich Anderson 04-18-2014 08:48 PM

You automatically lose 3 birds due to the operator enhancements plus the loss of an additional 2 birds for non factory equipment.:rotf:

Mills Morrison 04-18-2014 08:53 PM

What is the handicap if you aren't a good shot to begin with?:rotf:

Rich Anderson 04-18-2014 08:57 PM

It's the same for all of us......zip. I'm not much of a shot but that's why I like the small bores..a built in excuse:)

Mark Ouellette 04-19-2014 07:23 AM

Handicap my butt. If fact you can kiss my butt!

Let's shoot one round with our own guns, big or small, and then trade guns for a round. The total of the 2 rounds wins. I can shoot small guns but can you shoot a big gun?

David Dwyer 04-19-2014 07:26 AM

N F W!!
Semper Fi
David

that does not mean New Found Wonder Mark:rotf:

[QUOTE=Mark Ouellette;137311]Handicap my butt. If fact you can kiss my butt!

Is that a checkered butt or one with an original Silver's pad?:) That sounds like a good idea Mark, I'm in.

Mark Ouellette 04-19-2014 07:32 AM

Okay guys, good responses! :rotf:

Harold Lee Pickens 04-19-2014 07:45 AM

Thanks for the offer but I don't go that way:rotf::rotf::rotf:

If your man enough to shoot a ten gauge for sporting clays than you can be man enough to give up a couple of birds. you are using more shot than anybody else after all.

Harold we will probably head out Sunday am.
