Dean I don't believe you or anyone else will use a Short Ten enough to appreciate it's capabilities unless you reload for it.

RST Shells are wonderful, they provide options where none exist and Morris is a nice guy, but the retail price of $40 for 25 1 1/8 ounce 2 7/8" 10ga shells will lead to very limited shooting for most people. In contrast I have been able to reload a box of 25 1 1/8 ounce 10ga target loads for about $7 a box of 25. My cost include the purchase of hulls.

It does not take very many boxes of shells to ammortize the cost of MEC loader and short kit.

But there are other choices for turkey shooters.

Yes there are, a few 1 1/4 ounce loads, and with so few shots taken at Turkeys cost is not an issue, However I don't see any 1 3/8, 1 1/2, 1 5/8 or even 1 3/4 ounce loads on there. If you check the 10ga reloading data you will see larger payloads with moderate pressures.

If you want to shoot it a lot and have a wide range of payload/pressure options you have to reload for the Short Ten.

Dean,

Based on the serial number of your new gun it is likely to have 2 & 5/8" chambers.

Also, the chambers may have been cut for brass shells.

does your have the recessed breech face for the shells?

No, it has flat breech faces with no recesses.

Interestingly, I know of a Parker with the gas-releif porting on the breech faces that was patented by Boss. I'll post a pic of that tonight.

Seventeen Parker 10 gauges at last count. Add four LC Smiths, and a couple Lefevers and I suppose I do have a few...

I have no AH Fox 10 gauges because due to Ansley's late arrival with his last gun company. The 10 gauge was fading from the marshes and fields when the AH Fox Gun Company produced their A, B, and C grades. I do however have a couple Super Fox HE guns in 12 gauge magnum. I shot one of those at Hausmann's in June on the small bore course. Life is nothing without a challange!
