Good Morning all,
Very interesting thread. I had never thought before of all the different styles of cases in which to carry a gun. When going from the house to a hunting area, they go into the rack behind the front seats of my vehicle. When traveling any distance, I use the old leg o' mutton cases. Both of these are waiting to be taken to my leather working guy to be refurbished. PopPop |

Yep, I used one of those plastic Planos from Walmart about a year ago.
I wouldn't recommend it. Now who were those great wood repair guys?:banghead: |
That made my stomach hurt. What make is that Larry?

Like Mike said, That makes me ill!!!!
What in the world happened to that? What a shame to have something like happen. Pop Pop |
Gun cases
This is a "gun case" I wish I didn't have.
That would be your basic UPS impact damage, of which, they will not honor insurance around. The gun is a pre-war Merkel 32" vent rib trap gun. |

For a trip to the gun club, I like an old leg o mutton for my Parker Reproduction. In the duck boat I use a soft floating case. For travel my wife and I both use hard cases. This is her home made hard case. While she enjoys duck hunting, she has not yet succombed to the Parker habit. She did sew the flying bluebill scene. Photos attached (I hope).

Leg o' mutton cases are way cool for vintage guns but the older I get the lazier I get, and most of the time they're a bit too much trouble. I'll use one now and then on a trip to the trap range, or sometimes when trying to save space when traveling (all by car, so no need for heavy duty fight cases). Mostly I use a padded canvas double case from Galazan that my wife bought me a few years back. Easy in, easy out.
That flying duck scene is awesome! Seeing that damaged Merkel ruined my morning!! |
WOW! What a wonderful piece of embroidery!
