Not my BH, but looks like it may be for sale--with it's cracked-thru-the-wrist stock and dented Titanic barrels.

That's a wonderful BH. It needs some TLC and some time at the spa but it has tremendous 'possibility'.

Looks like this one may be a sturdy Lab.
|
"Sturdy" is the right word. What year was your CH made Bob?
Will you have it at Major Waldron's on New Year's Day? |

Anyone else have a retriever on a Parker? Do we think that the dog on the #2 buttplate is a retriever? I always have thought so.
|
Bill- why dont you add a few photos for the thread?

Mike,
All I can say is WOW! Jeff |
Dean I think it's a 1905 gun, I got a letter on a couple years ago and yes it will be at the New Years shoot.
|
Bill, Looks like a Lab. But he looks to be sneeking up on something. Do Labs sneek? I guess he looks like he could be pointing as well. Suppose they could point? Only upland hunted with a couple, so my opion is not the best. But I know its agraviting when no answers you question.
|
Calvin,
My faithful Chesador both points and sneaks up on game. My dog points until a bird starts to run then he flushes. He will also sneak up on game by lowering his body a couple inches and taking a step and pausing. During this sneak his face has a very serious look about it. Anyway, he steps, pauses, steps, and so on. I've never hunted behind a real pointing lab but will certainly consider one for my next faithful friend. We can learn a lot from our dogs... Mark :) |

Most who know me, know that I also have a real weakness for Lefevers. Here are a couple of my favorite Lefever puppies.
These two have been seen in one of my DGJ articles. |

Here's an AHE. The trigger guard on this gun is very very deep cut.
|
Very impressive gun Wayne.
|
Wayne and Josh, can those LeFever dogs be attributed to Joseph Loy?
|
I am not sure where Joseph Loy was employed in 1893, but that is the year the D grade Lefever was produced.
|
FWIW, I believe my 1894 Remington CEO was engraved by Joseph Loy. I showed it to Charlie Semmer and he thought the same. It does not have dogs, being a C, but does have the Celtic style corners that could be perceived as containing the initials J on one side L on the other. Some feel Mr. Loy did this to "sign" his work.

There may have been a period, or periods, when Loy was an independant contractor as his work is seen on a few different manufactures of guns.

Here is a dog very similiar to the Lefever dog shown in a previous post. Same engraver? This gun was made in 1890.

Identical Gun
I was quite suprised to see this gun. My BHE also built in 1902 (117495) has exactly the same engraving pattern. My gun is a stright grip which was also broken thru the wrist when I bought it. I restocked it to my deminsions so I could enjoy shooting this fine old classic!
