Team Elsie beat Team Parker. There was a lot of good shooting and fun though. John Truitt took high gun by 7 points. A PGCA member won the LC Smith raffle gun too
|
The 8g event was great! I had no idea that guns and shells would be supplied to anyone who wanted to shoot in it. The cost of admission was well worth the opportunity to shoot some of these great guns.
A big thank you to all of those who volonteered the use of their guns as well as provided shells! |
Yes a big thanks to the folks who loaned us 8 gauge guns.
Eric Eis loaned me his fabulous 8 gauge DH to shoot and it got me into the shoot off. Unfortunately I didn't get to shoot it in the shoot off and didn't win. I am sure Mills will give a complete report. A special thanks to Charlie Cleveland who made me up some 8 gauge loads to practice with at home. That made the difference - being able to practice swinging a fence post while discharging lead at a moving target. way different than shooting a turkey from a stool!!!! Thanks Eric and Charlie. |
What was the score?
. |
204 to 181
|
Complete report and photos will follow once I get back home and settle down
|
And we have Hammer Challenge today.
|
Shoot straight Guys!
. |
Sherry Jordan won high lady by a considerable margin. Another few hits and she would have been on the team. Way to go!
|
Hurry with those official results, Mills. Bill Kempfler's 2016 website results differ quite a bit from those you post. I like Bill's results better, but your accuracy seems better. Sorry I couldn't be there to "Almost make the Team" again, for several years in a row. Who provided the ammunition for those who borrowed 8 gauge guns? He is one generous shooter.
|
Mills did a fantastic job running things and as team captain. Well done buddy.
Smith won the hammer gun event today by three targets. They had a clean sweep of us this weekend. They won the 16 ga event ,the 8 bore event, the challenge cup, and the hammergun event. Despite the outcomes this was a phenomenal weekend. The collectors associations events and the southern continue to grow and get better and better every year. Imo the success is do to the effort and tenacity of the men and women of the PGCA and LCSCA who got things going. Thank you very much!!!!!!! |
Our thanks to everyone who participates in this annual event, both behind the scenes as well as those who step to the line and shoot as well as they possibly can under the pressure of what is to be gained or lost.
Thanks to all! . |
Ok we lost but in most cases not by much. We just need a few more Parker shooters to break a couple more targets.
It seems like they had 2 shooters for everyone of us. This needs to change. |
And it is a great social event. I met a great guy named Buddy Marson who, after this weekend, feels like I have known him for years!!
|
Buddy's a terrific guy and a long-time member.
. |
Smith also won the hammer gun event, but not by much. High shooter was Bryan Brady of Team Parker at 28 and he was high gun by several birds.
|
Bryan has been a Team Parker shooter for a few years now and he has always been an impressive shooter.

The first time I remember Bryan, he won the Oscar Gaddy Trophy with a Parker he had just purchased. Amazing.
|
There was a young fellow, 9 years old, shooting for the Smith team in the shootoff. I figured he would wilt under the pressure but I was wrong. This young fellow, sorry I don't know his name, was just outstanding! He was smoking targets with the best of them. Let's face it, the Smith team has more shooters shooting the qualifying rounds and more quality shooters than Parker right now. Those targets for the shootoff were tough targets to hit and it was fun to watch both teams compete.

Great job Mills, this event continues to grow and new ideas will continue to make it a success. I really enjoyed seeing everyone and look forward to next year.

I have 3 short video's of the the 8 gauge event but they are too large to post. I'll mail them to J.D and he may be able to put them up.

Did anyone mention that we had rain:eek:

The shooting went on. Some people dropped out, but others kept on.
PS: It wasn't raining, it was POURING! |
Mills, hope you are getting some much deserved rest. You looked tired and rightfully so. Thank you, and all others that helped out in the Parker tent.
George, I met Buddy Marson also, and had the pleasure of shooting with him and David Dwyer all day Thursday. Not only is he a great shot, but maybe we should nickname him " The Virginia Gentleman". It was great to meet other names familiar to those on this site such as Mike Franzen, Bruce Day, and John Truitt--watched John break 49/50 during the Parker/Smith challenge, nice shooting. I'm lucky enoughto be able to travel to both the Southern and the Northeastern, and looking forward to seeing many of you there. |
I am slowly catching up. I got halfway home and Julia called to say one of the kids spray painted himself John Deere green. Things started with a bang

That kid sure loves John Deere!

Obsession is more like it.
I owe Dean an article and Allan some financial stuff and money. I will get to it in the next few days. Thx |
