Very nice looking gun. The engraving is wonderful and looks quite contemporary.

My friend is no longer interested , though I do know the seller settled in at around 20k for this gun through doubleguns.com

What is the attributed year of manufacture of the subject gun?

I can't say for sure as to the year. If I did it would only be a estimate from the current owner. What I do know is this gun was built for a gentleman who has passed and is part of an estate. I did see other photos of the 405 (not quite as ornate) as a live bird gun in a Beretta international book. I believe they told us doubleguns.com is listing this gun for sale.

They would have to be a bit clearer. I have not heard of doubleguns.com and can't find that domain name. Date of manufacture is very easy to determine on most Italian guns. Twenty grand is a bit high for such a gun, no matter how ornate or scarce.

Sorry Bill, I think he told us doublegunshop.com was where it would be listed ,my fault. As far as value I would personally agree with you, although anything can only be worth what someone is willing to pay (no matter what it is). A piece of French toast with the virgin Mary on it sold on Ebay for a staggering amount.. I wouldn't want to offend any man by giving my opinion of what I think that gun is worth. It would be my opinion and only that. I will tell ya what I think of the French toast though.

Just a little food for thought. I read a thread once about a gun that had been refinished with shelac and maybe other crude means and the possibilities of how this gun might be restored. I am willing to bet that if this gun was once owned by a man who has only memories of he and his father with little means preserving such a gun, for him it may be priceless...

I certainly don't see anything to criticize with this gun. It is a great effort. At the right price, someone will be very happy.
