Damn, I was hoping for one more hunt with Roger. I have very fond memories of the ruffled grouse hunt that I had the privilege to be on with Roger near Iron River Mi. Than talking with him at the S X S shoot was always a pleasure. He was a fine person and I will miss him. Frank Halsey

Roger was quite some guy and Linda and I will miss him. He sure was not one to attempt to blend into the crowd if the crowd somehow did not go his way. He reminds me a bit of Destry and another Mugwump whom I will not name. Excuse me if I capitalize "Mugwump" but I'm not sure of the proper form. I'm sure Roger would have told me if this form is correct, or not. Thank you Destry for keeping us informed of Roger's situation. Rest in peace, Roger, and Anita, please be well.

Oh I think it should be capitalized because life would be pretty dull with out em!!! "Mugwump" thats new word for calvin but it will be noted. thanks Bill ch

A "mugwump" is a person who is a member of an organization or political party who agrees with the general "constitution" of the organization, but takes exception to those who violate that "constitution" for their own benefit. Roger definitely was an independent spirit.

Oh, my. I've been away from the forum for quite a while, and have just learned of Roger's passing. Roger was one of the good guys, and though I've never met him I'll miss his presence here. Who tell us tales about Ol' Klunker, and whom can we now count on to PTG? My prayers and sympathies are extended to his family and those of you who were close friends. Thanks, Destry.

Jim

I'll never forget the trip Roger, Destry and I made to the Southern one year. Those stories will live on forever and they still make me laugh.

Goodbye Roger.

There will be a memorial service for Roger on August 13th at 11am with a luncheon following at the United Methodist Church in Rossford, Ohio. I plan on being there needless to say, anybody else that's going to attend please let me know.

With Roger's memorial service coming up on Saturday, I thought I'd post a few pictures.

Ed Muderlak, Jack Apple, Roger Giles, and myself at Roger's home one evening for dinner. These were some of Roger's favorite times, we always had a few drinks and it was solid gun talk.

Several years ago, when Roger had moved into the current house, he finally had a spare bedroom which immediately became the gun room. First thing he did was go to work building a first class gun rack to display his firearms. This gun rack now resides in my home, one of his parting gifts to me.

Roger shooting at the first Parker / LC Smith Challenge. He was on the very first Parker final squad, something he was very proud of.

Roger loved to cook and host his friends for wild game dinners. This is one of he, myself, and Jack Apple after Roger and I had returned from a two day railbird shoot in Virginia. He made the rails into a marsala that would have made the angels sing.

Roger and I after our first squirrel hunt together. He liked to do it up right and have a first class field lunch after a shooting day.

One more I couldn't resist posting. The phone rang one afternoon and he just said you'd better get your ass down here for dinner. I got my hands on a nice turtle this morning and I've got a pot of soup on. It was so good I felt I had to take a picture of it for posterity....
