I don't want to put words in Bill's mouth, but I took his statement to mean that worn out small bores were over priced.

-- Any `12 gauge M12 with original 32" barrel, whether plain or with solid rib will command a premium over the same conditioned M12 with 30" barrel- very few made, and most were in the 3" Magnum configuration-according to Riffle's M12 book- Charlie- a 2E 12 Smith with 27" barrels and a gold inset bar- usually on the quality pre-1913 Smiths you didn't see the gold bar inset in the top rib until you bought a Pigeon Grade- Did you get a chance to mesure the barrels and look over the gun? Smith did offer either 26", 27" or 28" barrels on their Skeet Special 12 gauges, but that was in the 1930's- they also then offered the HOT in either selective or non-selective mode- A good friend has a 12 FWE Skeet Special with 27" barrels, HOT selective, straight hand stock, checkered butt, and the later bulky schnabel style forearm.

i would have liked to have had that model 12 winchester with 32 inch barrel it was a nice gun...francis i looked that no2 grade lc smith over goo it had a letter with it stating the 27 inch barrel were factory... and thesigle selective trigger was also factory....the lc smith boys said a few of these gold bars come up every once in a while....i have a lc smith no 4 grade and it its a plain jane..no gold bar no ejectors and just fair lookin wood...some body must have just liked the engraving or didnot have the money to jazz the gun up... would you believe it were geting a pretty good snow as of now...looks like im gonna have to move north to get away from it...makes 4 th snow this year....we aint had 4 good snows in the last 40 years....guess ill get up and see if i can track a rabbit in the morning.... charlie
