here is another one where the bidders have a surprise coming
https://hessney.hibid.com/lot/100087...steel?q=parker and what are "fine cast steel" barrels? |
Quote:
That was a nice gun! The price it sold at was a great one! A collector would easily pay $1k more. |
Rick: Belgian "Cast Steel" could have been several products. I did a composition analysis on one specimen and it was very low carbon non-standard AISI 1002 with a tensile strength less than Bessemer/Decarbonized steel.

The gunbroker Trojan sold for $1825. Not that much over the top. Nice gun with a couple of misaligned screws. Nice that it didn't have a pad which would have lowered the value by almost $1000. Condition and originality are everything.

It took at least two people to reach the price of that T. Parker, maybe more! The seller must be very pleased.

I looked at that gun on the Hessney auction and I agree, that winner will be disappointed.
I did browse a bit as long as I was there on the auction website. I bid on a percussion 16 gauge sxs that I believe was converted from flintlock to percussion. Anyway I "won" it. If it checks out I will have it converted back to flintlock. |
