I have a 16ga VH that was sent back to the factory two months after it was bought to have 2" clipped off the barrels and at the same time ordered a set of 32" twist barrels in 20ga for the same gun. The barrels were cut and no "box" just matting to the end of the barrels, a lyman site was also added. Never say never when it comes to Parkers!

The barrels may have been a replacement set?

Did he get the barrels and chokes measured yet? If so how long were the chokes?
