Apologies Bill, I thought you were referring to the barrels, the only place you can't add steel.
Weld, anneal, grind and polish.

Guaranteed it was.

So many Brownings were essentially ruined because of their "quick drying" method of using a salt pack to draw moisture from the wood.

What a fabulous restoration!!
