I’m vascillating to replace a VH 16 gauge 1 frame straight grip 30” that was tighter than the hinges of hell (choke wise) I traded of 25 years ago , just haven’t seen the one that’ll make me write the check . And I even eased up and am receptive to PG as well LOL’s

There was a time I only wanted 26” barreled Parker’s or any SxS for that matter . I’ve obviously gotten over that but when a person says 26” I automatically think bird barrels IE open for grouse quail etc

Modest year, but the highlight is the GH Damascus 20 bore I picked up in March...28" with the factory right barrel cylinder, left Mod., it proved deadly on doves this season. Followed by a 1 1/2 frame, late Meriden VH 12 in April, and finally a straight grip VH 20 with 26" barrels and nice stock dimensions weighing a svelte 6 lbs. even, in nice "original" condition in October.

My focus this year was small bores and it was very successful, although a few big bores found their way in too.

A bunch of 16's. Several on the 0 frame, a 0 frame G hammer gun, a 1 frame with 26 inch barrels may be the best handling of the bunch

A GH 20 with Damascus barrels

A GH 28 (that used to be a 20 Damascus) that may be the favorite.

Several others. Although not new, Brian Dudley completed my VH 20 project which was a labor of love and turned out great. Patience and money were well rewarded

Re-joined PGCA after numerous years. Life got in the way.
I was gifted my Parker from my father about 40 years ago. He and I hunted with it for too many years to count.
Not fancy, but a beautiful 12 Ga.
It is "PH" grade. Serial #71360
Made: Sep 17, 1894
Damascus, 30" BBL

Going to get it out and do some quail hunting this new year. Live in Montana, good place to hunt.
Good to be back.

I picked up two L. C. Smiths -- a 26 inch 1903 3E 16 gauge and a grade 4 12 with what I believe is an original skeleton steel buttplate. A Parker C grade 12 hammer gun and CHE 16, both with Bernard Steel barrels; a VHE 2 frame 30 inch, straight/splinter gun from 1912; a BH 12 straight/splinter from the 1890s; and a Quality U 12, also with straight/splinter and 30 inch barrels. Two Rook Rifles (one a Holland and Holland) rounded out the year. Working on fulfilling my promise to my wife to scale back the buying next year.

Garry, as they say around here "you done good"

I was blessed to become the caretaker of a lifter 20 gauge this year.... and learned a ton in the process. Also a 1 frame GH 12. Looking forward to 2020!!

I sooooo want a hammer 20!!!

Dean H Hanson 12-16-2019 09:49 PM

Mark, I absolutely love the gun. Needs some work. However, the reception and input from fellow PGCA members has been more than amazing. Meeting Charlie Herzog and talking with Gary Carmichael.... priceless!!
