Theres not many people who have experience with big bore shotguns it seems at least on this side of the pond as they say . 10 and 8 gauges are my primary interest . Got my first 10 gauge when I was 17 and have had 5 or 6 at 26 .

I have had a strong attraction to a 8 bore but have always turned away for reasons of cost, ammo availability and they can't legally be used for ducks.
I like to hunt and shoot my guns. A DH 8 would be a very cool gun to own if only they were a little more practical. I plan to ask the rst folks at the Vintagers if they will offer ammo in the near future. Ammo availability may tip me over and make me reconsider the big 8.

They are still legal for turkeys in some states and I am thinking about using mine for a deer drive. RST told me they are working on 8 gauge shells

They’re not legal for deer or turkey in the Old Dominion but you can bet your backside if I ever acquire an 8 gauge and am still hunting I’ll kill a deer with it . Regardless of what the state game department might say , actually I could use one when we have Damage Control Permits for deer or bear and it would be 100% legal .

Thats my plan , last I talked to them they said they were doing pressure testing and working with Tom Armbrust . I remember looking at the hunting regulations a couple years back for turkey hunting . There used to be a 20 gauge minimum but I cant find that restriction anymore . I had wanted to buy a 28 ga last year .


I was thinking it would be interesting to use the 8 ga for coyote .
Predator hunting doesnt really seem to be a thing here , but alot of hunters out in the midwest use the 10 and 12 gauges for coyotes .

Would love to use the 8 on coyotes.

a load of bb s in the 8 gauge would dispatch a coyote in a heartbeat....in a full choke gun i would think it to take a coyote at 60 yards easily.....charlie

I shot a Fox at about 50 yards with steel BBs in my AYA ten from an upstairs window. He dropped like a rock, but I gave him a second shot in case he revived while I was coming downstairs. Our RSA has a bait pole with space for a dead duck at the top, but set out at a range for a rifle shot, not a shotgun shot. I'm not sure what the range limit is for a shotgun against a fox or a coyote. However, I have shot 60 yard patterns with a tightly bored Fox with 1 1/4 ounces of lead #4s that would have put a bunch shot into a fox.

Well, if we’re to believe WHF, a 16 gauge Parker T/A hammer gun can do it at extreme range.

I have been researching what game is legal with the 8 ga so when I get one I know what it can be used to hunt . Turkey and other big game as far as I can tell . Coyote and other predator or pest like hogs , and I think pheasants as well .
Im curious to see what shot sizes RST is going to offer in their 8 ga loads .
