That's because the GSP was only introduced to the US in the 1920's and wasn't recognized by the AKC until the early 1930's. The classic paintings of American bird dogs were done in the late 19th century and early 20th century.

I have a Robert Abbott print."Shorthair and Grouse".. it's one of my favorites...

That 1903 print of Geneva is framed and hangs in my living room. classic setter. Original print. Love it

I've hunted over some pretty stylish English Pointers in my day. There great dogs but I'll stick with my GSP's. I've had one continuously for over 30 years until 12/27 but that will change come May. Maybe I can find that Robert Abbot print.

I keep telling myself that I really don't need any more advertising/prints..etc..But...I must be weak, because if I do run across a new one...well..you know how it goes.. For example, Dupont did a post card that matched all the prints they gave to dealers. There is one on Ebay for $30...I offered $25 and he declined. I had a friend in Palm Beach that owned an art shop. I had him frame many of these. The SS Fox print is framed in sassafras cut from our farm in Indiana..I pegged the corners and did the copper on the corners. When I find a new one, I put it under the bed with the others..and bring it out later..and tell my wife......" I've had this a long time..don't you remember ?"..Sometimes it works..

Speaking of Robert Abbett . . . I'm the current caretaker of an Orvis "Light Salmon" 8'6", 3/2, 7wt. fly rod formerly owned by by him. (There are a few GSP hairs stuck to the bag.)

A great rod for grilse and the occasional salmon!
