Alright... after staring for hours on a 24 inch computer screen, I`m changing my original comment (hardheaded):) to LC Smith Crown grade...

de Mund. Could it be a Daly?

Spotts and Newcomb both used Daly SBTs http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../407090567.jpg Jay Clark, member of the 1920 Olympic Gold Medal team with his Flues SBT http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../412290074.jpg Otto Newlin, winner of the 1927 GAH with his Smith Crown SBT (no FE groove) http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../308467310.jpg John Hendrickson, member of the 1912 Gold Medal Olympic Team. I think it's a Smith. http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../413456781.jpg |
de Mund's looks like it might be a Westley Richards SBT to me.

Parker SBT
Well, Dilly Dilly! Bob, I`m going to have to agree...
Westley Richards didn`t even cross my mind.:banghead: Thanks, Trap3 |
Definately not a Smith, they have a Schnable forend. Could be a Westley Richards , I had one years ago but it was restocked. I think it had a sculptured side but it's been too long ago. Did Daly's have a scalloped frame? If the picture was from 1917, we could rule out some manufactures or models. I'll have to look at my American Single Barrell book to see if there are any similar guns in it or maybe Randy, you have already looked.

Westley Richards SBTs. I can't tell if de Mund's has a VR. Distinctive angle at the front of the action and I think Chuck might be correct. Still can't 'splain the FE goove.
WR Model of 1908 http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../413732818.jpg Possibly Model of 1911 with VR and frame sculpting Forest & Stream March 11, 1911 https://books.google.com/books?id=m0...J&pg=PA400&lpg Forest & Stream Feb. 8, 1913 https://books.google.com/books?id=hhjHHPd3VxUC&pg=PA192 http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../413732768.jpg FE groovish, and quite...exceptional...Schnabel tip ;) http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../413732770.jpg Charles Daly SBT distinct frame. I don't think that is de Mund's gun http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../413732817.jpg |
Yup Drew, your second picture is what I had. The gun was garbage but that's a different story and one I'd like to forget! I learned a very valuable lesson.

Definitely not a Francotte Model 11 with the distinct breech

Chuck, the photo was taken at the 1917 Grand. I did take a look through Conley`s book, which only covers American SBT`s. Don`t know about the forend either... Thanks Drew for the Westley SBT photos. Seeing a few more
examples I do believe he is holding a Westley Richards SBT Best Regards, Randy |
Same grooved FE in the Fred Gilbert ad in Outers' Recreation, November, 1919
