Update, Chuck called at 8:40. They took him in for surgery at 3:30. He’s up in his room and ate some supper. He’s having ice cream now. 😎 They’ll probably have him up and walking this evening. Doc told him probably 3 weeks until he can really start getting around. He’s definitely feeling his anesthesia. Really fun to talk to him right now.

Just got back home from our Ohio Spring Old Pat’s meetup to find this. Sorry it happened, Chuck, but it sounds like the surgery went well. Good luck with the therapy and recovery.

Brian Hornacek 03-08-2024 07:14 AM

Speed recovery and all the best Chuck!

Heard from Chuck today, he will be moved to a rehab center for a few days. Onward and upward!!

Chuck Bishop 03-09-2024 10:40 AM

First, thanks for your prayers and concerns for my health. I'm getting better. Everyone asks me how I fell so here's how it happened. I was making eggs and bacon. I took drink and accessories into the family room, and had to get back to the stove quickly. The family room floor is about 8 to 10 inches below the kitchen floor and the rest of the first floor rooms. I was going too fast and my lead foot didn't clear the kitchen floor riser and down I went! My wife was in the basement directly below me. Said it sounded like a bomb going off. Couldn't get up off the floor so we called the ambulance. They decided to do a partial hip replacement. Pain is much better so far today. In hospital for rehab. Please hold off on the letter requests till I give the all clear.

Dean Romig 03-09-2024 11:32 AM

You take care of You Chuck - Everything else will take care of itself -

Chuck Bishop 03-16-2024 04:14 PM

Home at last! I hope I don't see the inside of a hospital again for a very long time. I want to thank everyone for their messages of prayer and support. It means a lot. I don't want to spend too much time sitting in front of the computer at this time but I can do, with the help of Man of the Mountain, a few letters per day. If you haven't gotten a letter you requested, just let me know at pgcaresearch1@gmail.com.
Thanks,
Chuck

Garry L Gordon 03-16-2024 04:20 PM

Chuck, so glad to learn you’re out of the hospital. Hospitals are not the best places to get better. Your home setting will have you back to normal soon. My best to you.

Chuck Bishop 03-28-2024 02:25 PM

Well, it's obvious to me that I won't be able to make the Southern shoot this year. First one I'll miss in about 16 years. I am hoping to make an appearance at the other shoots starting in June. I'm doing the PT faithfully but progress is slow. Pain comes and goes but at least I am sleeping good at night with out pain.

No problem doing letters so send them to me. Thanks to Mike K. for helping out.

Dean Romig 03-28-2024 02:39 PM

Just get better Chuck!!

.

Stan Hoover 03-28-2024 03:09 PM

I'm sorry to hear you will not be in Sanford Chuck, as Dean said, Just Get Better!!

Glad to hear you're doing the PT and that the pain is manageable.

Stan

Mills Morrison 03-28-2024 03:13 PM

We will miss you but just concentrate on getting better.

Chuck, I'm sorry to learn you won't be able to make the Southern, but your recovery is most important now. As a hip replacement veteran, I know that sleeping well and without pain is a big deal in your recovery. The PT discomfort and feeling of slow progress is, unfortunately, part of the process. In a year, you won't believe how much better you feel...and beyond that, you'll wake up some morning and note that your "fake" hip works so much better that the original part.

I'll miss seeing you. Take care,

Garry

Rick Roemer 03-28-2024 08:35 PM

Sorry to not see you this year at the Southern. Glad you’re feeling ok and getting better. Try to keep a positive attitude.

CraigThompson 03-28-2024 09:15 PM

Chuckles sorry to hear you’re not coming to the Southern , you’ll surely be missed .

Mark Conrad 04-07-2024 10:12 AM

Chuck, so sorry to hear about your fall and injury. It’s great you are doing well. My wife had a hip replacement last June. First month was difficult. After two months she was back to her line dancing. Hang in there , you will be fine.
