It’s aging well in the cabinet. It gets a frequent loving wipe down. I wouldn’t be able to replace it if I were to hand it off to you.
Your admiration is noted.

Great, two of em. I think I'm going to have to go for a run or something to work some of this anxiety off. :crying:

A beautiful Runge-engraved Parker D-grade from the Remington era.

This was recently for sale on Gunbroker. I don't recall a grouse before.

Dean Romig 03-03-2023 09:32 AM

First grouse in flight I’ve ever seen on a Parker.

Emphasis on short wings! Overfed hummingbirds.

Dean Romig 03-04-2023 01:50 PM

I have referred to that beautiful gun as “the hummingbird gun”.

Dean, the engraved trigger guard on the Lifter you illustrated above with the milk cow signed by Glahn is particularly interesting. Would the engraving be factory or period custom work? I ask because signed engraving work on Parker Brothers shotguns has to be extremely uncommon.

Dean Romig 03-05-2023 08:20 AM

I believe that engraving to have been originally ordered that way. It was a high grade Parker and as such, anything was engraved by special order request… within reason.

As I recall, there was some sort of story involving a cow owned by the gun owner or a friend of his that would point woodcock. And we know that woodcock will often be found early in the morning probing cow patties for earthworms in or beneath them.

And yes, signed engraving on a Parker is extremely rare. Certainly the most common signature we see is “H. Gough” or “H. Gough Eng.”
The signature “Glahn” is not so common. Jacob Glahn’s work is often humorous or cartoon-like and often tells us a story or hints at one.

Another grouse on an earlier BHE 20. Sorry Dean, not flying, but sometimes we can't have it all.

I am familiar with this BHE 20. I thought it was still sitting at the dealer.

Tom Kidd 03-30-2023 06:53 AM

Ha, the old man stepped up!. Now, it will be following my dogs, and hopefully finding its mark. I just couldn't let it sit any longer, had to sell another exc grouse gun to make it happen.

Russ Jackson 03-30-2023 09:10 AM

WOW ,What a Great Gun Tom !!!!

Stan Hillis 04-07-2023 06:21 AM

Beautiful, Tom.

Has anyone ever seen doves engraved on a Parker, or any other American classic, for that matter?

Dean Romig 04-07-2023 08:03 AM

Only on SBT guns, but those may be some kind of pigeon.
