My 32" Vulcan Steel #0 frame 20 gauge barrels, installed by Parker Brothers as a second set on an A-1 Special, letter with 2 7/8" chambers. My old, now gone, #2 frame VH 20 gauge barrels, serial number 153,333, letter as 3" chambers. Where is that gun now?

I have a 20ga DH 26" 6lb gun that was made for 3 inch shells per letter and hang tags. But back then it was a 7/8 oz load.
|
Now that gun, makes me envious. What do those pellet counts come out as in terms of choke? It looks like a nicely contrasting combination, well suited for upland game.

Garry the chokes are rt .017 & lt .029. Kinda tight with modern shells, I use 7/8 oz spreaders. It's a great gun.

wow, what a gun! It needs to get together with my DHE 16, cyl/M, also 6 lbs.

Beautiful Harold! That is is one nice looking 16 gauge.
On those 3" 20 gauge shells, it seem like I read that they were more about the pattern than payload. Much different than want the 3" 20 gauge shell evolved into. That hangtag and box of shells show that that the 3" initially still had 7/8oz of lead. James, that is a wonderful Parker! So nice that you have the hang tags and it is such a good looking gun! |

However I've got two flats of nice new Browning 20 gauge 3" shells holding 1 1/4 ounces of #5's that will be used in a Parker or Parker Repro with 2 7/8" or 3" chambers whatever the case me be at tower pheasants  |

It's been a year for foxes for me

7/8 times 350 equals X. 240 divided by X equals the pattern percentage of the 20 gauge. Doing it without a calculator seems to make the left barrel 77%.

This gun was briefly discussed in the thread about the Pachmayr Upgrade but didn't get a lot of attention. A member took the time to inspect it in great detail, including measurements and photos. I think many viewed it as a rebarreled gun, first, but I was using my pragmatic approach and viewed it as an original 16ga. Damascus, with an additional set of aftermarket 20ga barrels.
Built on a 1 frame, a slight departure from my apparent habit of buying 0 frame guns, it weighs a modest 6 pounds, 13 oz with the very high quality Joseph Just (Ferlach) barrels. The 28 1/2" barrels were Proofed for 3". This was done in 1963, according to the Austrian Proof house, and the gun was restored in a non traditional French Grey finish. The Just Barrel top rib is nearly identical to Parker matting. The original 30" 16ga. Damascus barrels were preserved and will take some modest work. They fit within a few thous of closing because the joint roll was replaced when the 20ga. barrels were fitted. The bolt just begins to engage, so I am confident it will take minimal work to the hook to bring it back down. I don't typically buy at auction, but Redding is an excellent house and one couldn't possibly ask for better service and packing. |
Your pictures beat the auction house. Very nice gun! Please post pics when you get the original Damascus barrels fitted.

I thought I was going to get out of Hausemanns without any gun buying . However after shooting the main event Saturday , I was casing the tent one last time and stopped at Robin Hollows tables . A what appeared to be large frame Parker Grade 2 top lever caught my attention . It was a 10 32” on a 3 frame that I had thought on a 4 or possibly 5 frame . Anyway the gun had been restocked with a very nicely figured piece of dark walnut in straight grip and it had the correct trigger guard with serial number although certainly not original . The new stock has what I’d call trap/pigeon dimensions . While I was drooling the gentleman pulled out a second set of Belgian made fluid steel 10 gauge 3 1/2” 32” barrels that had Briley thin walls . So to make a long story short it followed me home . Saturday I got one of the chokes out and it was lite mod , the other was to tight so I got it out Monday snd it was IC so I got on the horn with Briley and a wrench along with an IM and F are headed my way .

I forgot to include the letter, which is pretty interesting. As Jay pointed out, It's nice to return it to Connecticut. Dr. Andrew Bennett Gorham was a prominent family practice physician who apparently delivered every kid born in Wilton CT until his death in 1907.
The Boston Sportsman's Show wasn't exactly the Centennial Exposition, but it's still nice to have a gun Parker thought enough of, to put on display. |

I love that wood Craig! The color and figure are perfect for a hammer gun. Here's a pin-lifter with similar wood. . |

Well back to what was bought this year, First I sold several 20 ga Hammer guns, was the caretaker for quiet some time, now they reside in new homes and are well cared for! The new additions this year so far 12gauge A1 Spl, and a 20 ga A1 Spl up grade that was bought by Otis Odum according to the hang tag in 1981, Both guns from Josh, When he sends me photos I will post them, My camera met with a unfortunate death, fell of my gator and the disk I was pulling sort of chopped it up!

The best laid plans of "Men of the Gun" often fall astray. I WAS doing great in liquidating some things I haven't shot and putting the money into some hunting adventures. To be honest the last couple of years have been pretty depressing and rather boring.
I left the Southern with three nice but not expensive guns, a DH 32 inch on a 2 frame, a 20ga Trojan and a very cool Winchester 1892 in 25/20. Years ago I sold a nice DHE 30 inch vent rib trap gun and now that I've discovered using 7/8th in a 12 and a modest supply of reloading components I thought I might like another one. I've been shooting some 12's for years mostly factory stuff in a Stephan Grant hammer gun as a prefer the small bores. August, Steve Barnet's step son brought a CHE vent rib gun to Hausmann's for me to look at. It left me cold however and I never even considered it. There was however a gun waiting in the wings that I asked him to bring with absolutely NO intention of buying. It's an AAHE on a 2 frame with 32 inch barrels. The grip cap is engraved Bay City MI Dr R Ballard and below that is C. Middleton. Now begins the search for information on Dr. Ballard and Mr. Middleton. Oh the gun is an absolute dream. Maybe August will sell some more stuff before my hunt in Texas this fall.....that or I might have to go back to work :eek: |
Rich show us some pics of that AAHE!!

Sorry about that Randy everything in my life right now is in a state of entropy. Graduation party in two days hiring a new office manager it’s just a complete mess. More details to follow. 30 inch VH 12 gauge in very nice condition I will send more photos.

A few more. Had an hour, ran to the club and shot skeet. Wow. Pulverization comes to mind. She's tight and a hoot to shoot! This might supplant the 32" VH even though it's a tad long LOP for me by maybe 1/2" but the pad is so nice I'm just going to leave it.

And a few more

That’s a nice looking Parker! Straight stock goodness! But, I cringe when I see guns posed on rocks!!
|
She's a beauty!
|
That's why God made foam from craft centers. I cut a few strips and I have them on hand as I've used this rock before!
|
Nice Andy, and no safety. Is she 28 or 30 inches?

Bring it to Mike's in July and I'll have my stuff to measure it.

Nice looking gun Andy, hope you enjoy it and she treats you right. I know what you mean about that pad looking so nice. I have a friend of mine who used to say, it's all wrong but it's alright. That pad's alright by me. Enjoy!!

Thanks Randy and Daryl
