Thanks Stan. Yep they sure built confidence in this young guy while listening to the hound music. What great artwork! I've been buying good papers at gun shows for some time now and have plenty for occasional use while hunting. I focus on those made in the later 50's to early 60's, and most will fire loud and crackly as when new. Paper shells with powder or primers that have soured (creating hangfires or duds) can generally be seen with corrosion on the top of the brass base or around the primer pocket. Sort those out when buying.

i totally agree. I've got many vintage shells I've bought, and use in my vintage doubles. Just today I was measuring some vintage 16s I have on hand to see which I would feel comfortable using in the Parker 16 ga., with original chambers. I've shot them for years at doves. There's a strange satisfaction in taking a nice mess of doves with shells that are almost as old as the gun.

Time moves on and familiar clays shells are becoming available.

Spotted today in a station trash can while shooting at Rock Mountain. Expand pic if you can’t make out the price sticker.

All I have to say is those weren’t purchased here!! That’s robbery!!

That is steep. Especially for GC loads.

Mike Koneski 12-27-2021 04:27 PM

BTW, there were pretty many once fired Gun Club hulls in the hull buckets this week. Just sayin'. :corn:

Craig Larter 12-27-2021 04:50 PM

I see GC's selling for $9.99 a box around here. Thinking 10 bucks will be the new price. Still mostly Italian hulls at Rochester Brooks but a few more GC's this week. Still not finding any 8ga industrial hulls LOL.

let us know when you find them 8 ga hulls....charlie

Like some brass manufacturer's require a minimal order of 50k pieces to do custom batch. I think Federal says it takes about 3 days or so to complete the waxing/drying part for the paper tubes which adds significantly to production time vs plastic.

But there’s no added labor time for the drying process so the cost shouldn’t be associated with this.

That’s just a disclaimer the insurance companies insist on for the manufacturers. Heck, every box of RST shells has that same disclaimer.

I have shot a LOT of 2 3/4” AA’s in my 1899 Titanic DH with 2 9/16” chambers when I used to shoot informal trap at my club before I got involved in Skeet.

Andy, they'll work just fine.

I went out on this cold winter day and put my new paper shells to good use.

When I bought them, I was thinking that they would be perfect for an early A5 of mine made in 1904. The shells and gun worked perfectly today and I shot 4 boxes. Cycled the gun fine and while I don't shoot this gun often, I should...

Oh and these shells do have a great smell when fired!!!

Mills Morrison 01-21-2022 03:18 PM

The smell of a freshly fired paper shell is the best

Andrew Sacco 01-21-2022 04:12 PM

Man, I love A5's!!

Jay Oliver 01-23-2022 10:04 AM

I just ordered two more cases of these. I know they're pricey, but I just couldn't help myself...I had too much fun shooting on Friday.

I'll shoot a few through a Parker soon too...

Great stuff !!!

I have 2 early 12ga A5s a 1902 and 1903 . I just purchase 10 boxes to used in these 2 guns.

I would bet these Peter's papers were made by Federal now that they have the same corporate identity. Kinda neat if true.

Even more so when they were loaded with certain powders. IMR 7625 comes quickly to mind.

Keith Sirmans 01-26-2022 09:12 PM

Mine came in yesterday
