Given the source that comment did not catch me off guard at all Craig. You like em big, really big. I let a 10 slip by some months ago that I should have bought, I have not caught the 8 bug yet but I would not rule it out.

Craig Larter 09-23-2021 05:20 PM

If it was my gun I would put it back to original straight grip and splinter. No hesitation.

I know of ATLEAST three folks that would more than likely let you shoot ond just to see if you liked it or not . And between the three of them you could possibly have nine guns to choose from

I thought the common theme was they found it to easy with a 10 or 12 or 16 and decided to supposedly make it “more sporting”shooting 20’s ,

Eventually a 32" California Duck Club 20 gauge would be great to own. Long term wish list item

That's going to happen Craig without doubt, it is just such a rare gun and so much fun to shoot I'm going to have to shoot it for just a little bit before I send it off. I actually had a conversation about the project with Brian yesterday I believe. My guess is that I will keep it around for a few weeks and then get it headed his way. I've already acquired a stick of wood for the project. My vision is that this gun should have a trap comb and thick wrist along with a silver's pad. Since the letter did not specify the butt treatment I have a little flexibility there. All other specs I plan to match the letter as close as possible. Might tweak the DAC just a tad, not much.

I feel relatively certain that I know the three folks of whom you speak. There is little doubt that I would like it. Someday the right 10 will come along for me and I will not hesitate, AGAIN :banghead:

Same here Craig. When I'm firing on all 8 cylinders that little gun is like a magic wand. She's so damn easy to shoot and shoot well.

It's not only that Reggie but I've always loved the 20 and 28 gauges and although there aren't that many I have been lucky in finding 30 and 32 in. smallbores that are just fun to shoot and not once have I felt handicapped by them on the clays course or in the field.

I managed to get in 2 rounds of sporting clays with this gun, what a treat it was. I shot it well, not far off my 12 gauge game actually on a fairly testy course. It is now in the hands of Fed Ex on its way to Mr. Dudley with a pretty darn nice stock blank IMO. Attached is a not so good pic of the blank the prior owner had sent me via text. And so the inevitable wait that goes along with a project such as this begins.:corn:

That is going to be a sweet Parker twenty!

That's what I am thinking to Reggie. Gonna have to find a 2 barrel case that will hold those 34's which might be a little tricky.

I find it’s helpful to buy another gun while waiting. It makes the time go more quickly. :corn::rotf:

Craig Larter 10-04-2021 06:07 PM

Great decision Randy, beautiful stock blank! Can't wait for the unveiling of the finished product. Congratulations that's awesome and a special Parker.

Mills Morrison 10-04-2021 08:52 PM

Call Ed Morgan. That is what I did for my 8 gauge. He set me up

Thank goodness we're not neighbors Garry. With like minds it could be financially devastating for both of us.:)

My wife got a big kick out of your post, but she couldn't imagine things getting much worse (or better, depending how you look at it:whistle:)

Please don't tell her I wrote this:knowbetter:

PS Waiting for a gun is a skill I've been working on for quite some time. Not much progress so far.

Advice given to me (by a gun dealer) was to throw the box on the couch and say "what's for lunch?"

I’ve been at this for a good fifty years and I still can’t do that :rotf: Although if I’m hungry I’ll get it out quick look and then devour lunch .

I still like Gene Hill's method best...

He leaves the house with a (empty) battered old gun case telling his wife he's going to take it to a good buddy who knows more about these relics and find out if it's worth anything.

He returns with the new gun in the case and says his buddy told him it's worthless and he ought to scrap it someday.

Any progress report on this little long legged beauty?

Reggie I don't have a really up to date report on this one. I do know that it is actively being worked on and that we were hoping to catch a break in a couple of areas which we did that will save a fair amount of work. I honestly have no idea as to the time frame for completion. Wood has been acquired as well as a case which will require fitting. I'm just trying to be patient and stay out of the way. After a few of these projects I think I am getting a little better at the waiting game, I think??

Brian Hornacek 01-23-2023 02:30 AM

I wondered what happened to this gun, I bid on it at the auction a few years back when it came up for sale. I’m glad it found a good home.
