https://i.imgur.com/oiykzmi.jpg I never noticed the beard till I mounted it today but the main beard is starting to separate into two. Probably would have had been a tripplebearder by next season I’m guessing. |
great storey...fine picture and a great mount...it was a limb hanger for sure with those long spurs....charlie

Parker SBT took him at 30 yards at 7:30 this AM. 1 1/4 oz of 7 1/2 stoned him. All the gobbling this AM and he came in w/o a sound. 4 1/8” beard, 1/4” spurs and 16 lbs. Smallest bird I’ve killed in a very long time but had to hunt hard for him. The SBT didn’t give him a chance.

But he’ll eat good Mike!
Good work with the SBT and 7.5 shot!! . |

I’ve hunted the last 8 out of the past 11 days. I have only seen one hen out of all my times and no Toms. In the last week and a half gobbling has slowed down on my WI property more and more to the point it has now basically stopped. I heard a Tom gobble 3 times at 5:48 am this morning and not one gobble after that. I hunted till 12:30pm. I did hear a shot miles away in the same direction of the Tom I heard around 7am. I’m guessing they are at the end of the breeding here. It would make sense since our Spring warm up was about a month and a half early this year. IMO the warm up got them off to an early start. I was out trapping nuisance varmints off my property a week and half before first season and the Toms were gobbling pretty steady. Tuesday will start our 6th ,and final, one week season. I haven’t given up yet but I’ll be surprised of I fill another tag. If a Jake comes my way he’s eating lead! |
Cory, two weeks ago I had our son out and he scored on his first turkey. There was a slammer Tom with a paintbrush rope that came in behind the 5 that were right in front of us. He didn't make a sound either and we heard little to no gobbling that morning either.

That’s good to hear...maybe tomorrow morning will be my morning. I’ve had many come in silent but normally I would have had seen a turkey after this many hunts in a row. Predators might be chasing them pretty hard as well. I’ve shot a few coyotes coming into my decoys the last few years.

Let’s hope so!!

The hammers starting dropping in Virginia in April and we finished strong on Last Man Standing Day in Maine on June 5, another Grand Spring Hunt in the books. Birds gobbled the last day like it was the season opener. Hens with broods are showing nicely. Moose, whitetails, grouse, coyote and woodcock made occasional guest appearances. We love our Parker Hammerguns and we love hunting wild turkey! Looking forward to turkey dogging in the fall! Congratulations to all who ventured afield with a Parker! JW

Our 6th and final season ended last Tuesday. I spent 5 days out of 7 of hunting each for the 4th, 5th, and 6th season on my 32 acres. No birds ventured into my sight for those 15 days accept for one hen. I will have to find some spring turkey hunting properties for next year besides my own. I was at least blessed with one dandy gobbler. I think I jinxed myself because I left my Charles Daly home the last three weeks and took my beretta pintail afield.

Great pictures Jim.
I'll be back in the game with my 10 bore D Lifter next spring. Too much crap going on this May and I only got out for the opener weekend in VT but she's having her barrels prettied up at Breck's right now so she'll be looking nice for the 2022 opener. . |
A terrible season for me. No birds heard on the farm at all, and none close enough to call to (but, I heard shooting every morning I went). Ventured into another county but the gobblers were all off the property.
I can't wait until the Fall season. My favorite turkey hunting. I finally patterned my GH 32" 10 gauge this Spring and it throws far too open a pattern for turkeys, so it's now my "new" waterfowl gun. The good news is that now I have an even better excuse to search for a Parker turkey gun...hopefully a nice lifter model. Dream on... |
